Three wonderful writers give the reader three different stories involving cats. Not just any cats, but cats with an extra special something that enable them to help the hero and heroine find each other. In A Purrfect Romance, the reader will see why cats are a woman's best friend. In Out of the Dark, Jennifer Blake tells the story of Anne-Marie Decoulet and Lucien Roquelaire. Anne-Marie, after years of wearing mourning for the members of her family, is attending a country cotillion when Lucien appears. Lucien was once the stuff of her girlish fantasies, but he has become nothing more than a cold-blooded killer in her eyes. Lucien has no idea Anne-Marie even exists until the hostess forces them to dance together. Once the dance is over, they go their separate ways, to Anne-Marie's relief. However, during dinner, an unexpected feline guest targets Anne-Marie as the means to get his supper, and with Lucien's help, Anne-Marie manages to keep the other guests from killing the magnificent, black swamp cat. Lucien then decides to further his acquaintance with Anne-Marie, and when he pays her a visit the day after the cotillion, he is in for a magnificent, black surprise. Robin Lee Hatcher continues the thread with her story A Wish and a Prayer. When spinster Felicity Blessing makes a heartfelt wish for someone to keep her company, a small, white kitten appears on her doorstep. Not quite what she had in mind, but Felicity takes the kitten in, feeds her, names her Angel, and tries to convince herself that her life is fulfilling and that she is happy. And she almost believes the little lectures she gives herself, until Prescott Jones and his partner want to buy Felicity's house to open their cannery. But Felicity is unable to sell her house for any reason but love. This is when Angel Emaline decides to step in and answer Felicity's silent prayer for someone to love. Using all of her feline cunning, Angel Emaline, in the appropriate disguise of Angel the cat, is determined to show these two humans that they were meant for each other. From eavesdropping on conversations to throwing herself in front of moving wagons, Angel Emaline works towards the completion her heavenly assignment. And finally, Susan Wiggs tells the superb story of Belling the Cat. In this amazing story, Rhys of Snowdon has recently escaped from a monastery. Travelling with his half-wolf dog and his stolen war horse, Rhys is searching for someone who will hire his sword arm. When he is attacked by six experienced warriors, Rhys nearly defeats them until he is attacked by a black cat with green eyes. He is then taken prisoner to the castle of Bryn Melyn, where he is cared for by the chieftain's daughter, Sirona, a woman of incredible beauty and melancholy, a woman with black hair and green eyes. Sirona's father gives Rhys three tasks he must complete, one of which is to put a magic bell around the neck of the cat that attacked him. If he is successful, he marries Sirona. If he fails, he will be killed. Rhys is determined that he will succeed, but not because he is afraid to die. Rhys is compelled to help Sirona overcome the melancholy that is her way of life, and destined to give her the love she doesn't know she wants. Whether you love cats or are indifferent to cats, you will love this collection. This book is destined to have nine lives, because you will read it over and over again.
