Book Description

Sixteen-year-old Zanas is beautiful, athletic and fierce. Qualities that have made her feel as though she has never really belonged in her life of wealth and luxury. But everything is about to change, when her plane plummets into the ocean, killing almost everyone on board.

She is left with only her sister, trapped on a mysterious island, both sinister and captivating. Zanas leads the survivors deep into the forest, where hidden dangers could mean their demise with every step.

Taken in by the people of Alwahi, Zanas finds that she can speak their language, and that their Goddess seems to call to her heart. Her newly formed world is torn apart, when her sister is kidnapped by the people of the beneath, and she must follow her deep below the surface, into a magical world that she never believed could ever exist.

Follow Zanas on her journey as she fights to claim her heart and her spirit. Where the fierce Pursuers of the beneath will ask her to give them everything, and where she will find her death or her destiny.

Three clans, powerful and unique, this is the journey of the Pursuer...

3.0 out of 5 stars Good book April 3, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
I recieved a complimentary copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

I really like the fresh new concept of this book. The characters were enjoyable, strong heroine, vivid descriptions. There are a few things I have a problem with, however. Like after the plane crashes and the survivors meet the "natives", Zanas never asks where they are or questions the odd things, she just goes with it. And once she goes to look for her sister, beneath, she joins the society there, and doesn't ask about her sister, doesn't look for her sister, nor does she have inner dialogue about her sister! When she finally does find her sister, it anti-climactic. I really struggled with how many stars to give this book. I liked the book over all, so I should give it 4 stars, right? But Zanas, not asking the obvious questions bugs me. So, 3 stars? I would be willing to read the next book though. Maybe 3 1/2!

Fantasy, romance, adventure rolled together with courage, violence and coming of age make for a great story. Very good book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Unique and provocative! January 26, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This fantasy is truly original and well written. Other than some typos and grammatical errors, easily fixed with professional editing, this outstanding novel delivers a fast-paced intriguing new world that connects to our own in a mysterious way. The character development is excellent with a nice blend of believable dialogue, interesting inner narratives and descriptions that really make this fantasy world come alive. I look forward to a sequel!

It did leave me wanting to know and read more, but the one thing that nagged me about this was the lack of concern for her sister when the whole point of her going into the underground was to get her sister. Me and my sisters are fine living in separate states and don't need to be around each other but we ALWAYS have some concern for each other on a daily basis despite our independence from each other. Aside from that, this book was interesting even though it was also a bit predictable. I enjoyed it and would like to read the second book.
