Robert Haine, CEO of Court Industries, had originally planned to seduce the owner's daughter, Charlotte Court, and wed her so that he would inherit the eight million dollar company. That was Plan A. Problem was that Charlotte seemed to be the only female in the world that could not be seduced. So Robert went on to Plan B. Since Charlotte's father was slowly dying in the hospital, Robert sent someone to kill the old man. Afterward, his man would pretend to be a hospital employee and call Charlotte in. Once there, Charlotte was to be murdered and framed as a murder/suicide. Problem with that plan was that Charlotte was already in her father's room when the killer arrived. The hit man managed to kill the father, but Charlotte got away. However, Charlotte was shot in the shoulder as she fled. Now on to Plan C. The hit man killed the old man's nurse with a small gun, one such as a woman with small hands would use. Robert made sure he and his men were at the police station first and had already set Charlotte up to take the fall for a double murder. Since Charlotte would not be thinking clearly and be in a lot of pain, she would run, so Charlotte's home was guarded as well. Robert's men would pick her up, kill her, plant the gun, and make sure her body is found. But Charlotte saw the men at the police station and around her home. The media had already condemned Charlotte and everyone was searching for the insane, wounded woman. Charlotte could do nothing but flee in a friend's SUV. She needed to lay low, get well, and try to figure out how to clear her name. And a furious, but scared, Robert had to quickly come up with a Plan D.

Lieutenant Commander Matthew "Matt" Sanders had been shot multiple times while saving his men overseas. After a few months, he woke from his coma to find himself in a VA hospital. Once able to leave it, Matt accepted the invitation of one of his teammates to stay with him in San Luis, Baja Sur, Mexico while he recovered. During his self-enforced physical exercises, he spied his Guardian Angel. Every day she watched him work to rebuild himself. Every day she silently sent him courage to fight through the pain. Every day Matt fell more in love with the lonely lady, who had obviously suffered as much as he in some way. When they finally met, Matt saw her still healing gun shot wound and was determined to not only teach her how to protect herself, but also convince her to become a permanent part of his life. But time was not on their side, Plan D was already tracking Charlotte.

*** I found this to be a terrific plot and filled with interesting characters. However, Charlotte and Matt's romance went WAY too fast, in my opinion. Matt's character was believable except for the fact that the man who had been with lots of gorgeous women suddenly found himself head-over-heels in love with a stranger with only casual looks across a beach. And I feel that I must warn readers that there is one scene of animal abuse and slaughter. (Had I known that, I never would have read the book.) Otherwise, this story overflows with action and suspense. On a personal note, I would love to see more of Tom Reich some day. He is a buddy of Matt's and captured my attention instantly. ***

I really enjoyed this book. Contary to the other reveiwers, I did not think the romance was rushed. Matt courted Charlotte from afar for 2 months. As far as the animal abuse, I didn't think it was needed to define the character and since I was forewarned, I skipped those pages!

This was my first Elizabeth Jennings book. I look forward to her next!

It only takes a moment for Charlotte Court to go from grieving heiress to fugitive. When a spurned suitor has her father killed and sets out to frame her for his death, Charlotte finds herself on the run with a gunshot wound and nowhere to turn for help. Months later, her luck turns when she nurses an injured former soldier back to health, becoming Matt Sanders' Angel, the woman he'd willingly lay down his life to protect. He might just have to, for there is a killer on her trail, and he's coming closer with every passing moment.

***** From page one until the end, this story grabs you and insists on being read. Despite the non-stop action, characterization is not skimped upon. Charlotte is someone you will be rooting for, from the edge of your seat, as her plight is played out in taut detail. *****

I've read a lot of duds lately, so I was thrilled with the way this story grabbed me from the start. Towards the middle of the book, I skimmed a bit because the author moved away from the main couple and spent a few chapters telling the assassin's story in more detail than I cared to read. I also skimmed through two graphic violence scenes: one where a cat is slaughtered in detail, and another where a woman's body is literally mutilated while she in unconscious. I like a little darkness in my modern romances, but this was beyond over- the- top. It dropped the book from a 5- star to a 4- star for me.


Charlotte Court is an artist who has grown up in a privileged world. She is her billionaire father's only heir. The head of her father's staff, Robert, wants it all. When she refuses to marry him, he decides to murder both Charlotte and her father. Charlotte ruins that plan when she walks in on her father being killed. She fights the attacker and runs. She is too late to save her father, and she can't go to the police. (They are being paid off.) She has no choice but to flee to Mexico. With a bullet wound festering in her shoulder, no allies to trust, and only the cash she can grab on her way out of the US, Charlotte makes her escape.

Matt Sanders was living the only life he ever wanted as a Navy SEAL. When his men were under attack, Matt didn't hesitate to sacrifice himself so they could escape. His men refused to leave him behind. With multiple bullet wounds to his body, Matt lay in a coma for a few months in the VA hospital. After waking, he had to accept that his recovery would never be complete enough to put him back in the field with his men. A buddy and former SEAL has invited him to come to Baja where Matt could finish his recovery. Unable to walk without crutches, Matt has a long road ahead of him.

Sitting on the balcony of her rental house in Baja, Charlotte watches a feeble man walk across the shoreline on crutches. She is shocked when he drops them and walks towards the water. Having been through so much pain and loss herself, she fears he plans to drown himself. Charlotte is not a good swimmer, but she is ready to follow him out to sea and bring him back to shore. She stops in her tracks when she realizes that he is not committing suicide, but is doing laps around the pier. When he finishes his exercise and collapses on the sand, she stays to watch over him. Once he has the strength to lift his head, he looks right at Charlotte and smiles. The two have bonded without a word. For weeks to come, she will watch over him as he rebuilds his strength. He doesn't know that he is also helping rebuild her soul.

Robert will not be denied the billions that Court Industries can bring him. The father is dead, but the daughter is still at large. Although he has managed to convince the media that Charlotte murdered her own father, seeing her jailed would not be enough. Robert wants her dead- silent. Through the suggestion of a friend, he hires an assassin to track down and kill Charlotte. This assassin is the best in his field. He has never failed to complete a job. Charlotte is as good as dead.

Matt believes that Charlotte has saved his life. Her silent support over several weeks of recovery kept him going. When he dives into the ocean for his daily exercise, she is always there to watch over him. Today, the weather has taken a terrible turn. When Charlotte loses sight of Matt, she runs out to save him. It is Matt who saves Charlotte and brings her back to shore. Now that he truly has her, Matt will never let go of Charlotte. She refuses to tell him who she is hiding from. (She's afraid he'll believe she murdered her dad, and then turn her over to police.) He has no choice but to stay close and guard her from an unknown enemy. When he finds her bullet scar, he knows the enemy is a deadly one. Matt vows to Charlotte that no one will ever hurt her again.



Minus the gore and the long- winded story of the assassin, this was an amazing story. Two strangers who silently support and encourage one another to make it through another day, eventually become lovers. Matt is so openly committed and in love that you can't help but love him a bit yourself. He is powerful, smart, and loyal. Charlotte is strong enough to face weeks of self- medicating her bullet wound while fleeing across the US and into Baja. Although she comes from money, she never comes across as spoiled and snotty. Totally down- to- earth, and always willing to give. Great characters! Both of their stories and recoveries are well- written. Nothing pretty, no super- human recovery, no skip- over to months later when they are well. You watch the slow and painful crawl to safety, health, and strength. You can't help but cross your fingers for Charlotte and Matt.

"Eight billion dollars." This first line of Pursuit is the perfect hook to reel you into Jennings' emotionally suspenseful book of wealth and greed, lust and love.

Robert Haine was not a wealthy man-but he wanted to be. He had spent his life watching the wealthy, and while he envied their money, he had grown to despise their disregard for the very people who allowed them to keep their wealth. He was the CEO of ourt Industries and had managed to save the company from sure bankruptcy. But Charlotte Court resisted Robert's attempts to woo her, thereby foiling his "Plan A" to join the ranks of the wealthy. Robert soon decided that if he couldn't marry money, he'd have to find another way. Philip Court was an old sick man, so he'd be out of the way soon enough anyway, but Charlotte was still a problem.....

Philip Court is found smothered in his hospital bed and then a nurse is killed. Charlotte is wanted by the police for questioning. Realizing she's being framed and fearing for her life, an injured Charlotte leaves New York and starts driving across country.

Meanwhile, in another part of the country, Lieutenant Commander Matthew Sanders, a veteran of the war in Afghanistan, come out of his coma. These two broken people, with virtually nothing in common, eventually meet in Mexico. What follows is a mixture of romance and suspense as they try to help each other clear up their pasts and move forward. The problem is, as long as Charlotte is alive, Haine can't get the eight billion dollars.

Told from multiple points of view, you follow Robert, Matthew and Charlotte in a cat-and-mouse game that at times becomes just a wee bit tedious. That, along with some improbable happenstances hinder the building suspense. However, for a beach read or a long car trip, this book is a good choice.

To me, it was very obvious that this was a Lisa Marie Rice story. The description and actions of the hero said it all. Navy SEAL Matt Sanders was a typical LMR hero: he saw the heroine and was instantly smitten, and then he set out to get her. He was a dominant, take charge guy, and very protective of the heroine, Charlotte, yet he also had a sweet, romantic side. I loved this about him, and I also liked how Matt respected Charlotte and didn't try to change her. I also liked how he taught Charlotte how to take care of herself, and this played a very important part later in the story. This story didn't quite have the eroticism of her Ellora's Cave stories, yet I thought the way that their romance developed was very sexy. I also thought that there was a nicely developed plot, and the suspense aspect was very gripping. I also didn't enjoy reading about the animal torture, but I thought it helped show the type of person that Charlotte was dealing with.

Matt had a Navy SEAL buddy who played an important role in this story, and
I could see this developing into a series much like Suzanne Brockmann's Troubleshooters series. I would definitely enjoy reading more about Matt and his buddies! This was a great start to what I hope will be a long running series!

I am always amazed at the things people can find wrong with a book. I thought the book was good except a little slow to action. I did not think that Charlotte and Matt's romance was too quick at all. It is a good read from a great author.

The thing that amazes me is the big to-do over the (admittedly brutal) killing of the cat but the zero and nothing that was said about the brutal and senseless murder of the maid. Only in America can the life of an animal create more outrage that the murder of a human being.

When Charlotte Court and her dying father get in the way of the CEO of a company they own large shares in, he decides to solve the problem by killing both of them. Charlotte gets shot but manages to flee the scene of her father's murder, only to be framed for being the killer herself. While hiding and healing, she meets Matt Sanders, a former Navy SEAL who almost died on a mission and is now recuperating. The two fall in love, but it takes Charlotte a while to confide in Matt. And in the meantime, a professional killer has been hired to find and kill her...
This book has a good suspense plot and some eroticism, but what I like most about it are the characters. They really have depth and feel real. It should be mentioned that there are some tough scenes in there, including torture, murder and the like, which someone looking for a light romance novel might not be happy about. Personally I felt it added depth to the characters and plot, and it made the villains that much more convincing (and realistic). It might be interesting to know that the author also writes under the name Lisa Marie Rice.

I am so glad I read this book. I had no idea that Lisa Marie Rice also wrote under the name Elizabeth Jennings. I love her erotic novels and am thrilled that I can now satisfy myself while waiting for her latest offering by reading all the Elizabeth Jennings books I've missed.

Charlotte is in trouble, wounded, and on the run. Her old sheltered and cosseted life just a memory now. She's concentrating all her energies on surviving and certainly doesn't have time for a man.

Matt is rebuilding his own life. His was torn apart just like his body during his last mission in Afghanistan. He's reached his lowest ebb and just when he thinks there's nothing left to live for...he sees her. His Angel. He doesn't know her name, who she is, what she does. But he does know she's survived something terrible. When he finds out how terrible, there's nothing he won't do to help her and avenge her.

What a pair. What a story. Whatever name she writes under, Jennings/Rice can yank you into the world of her characters with ease. It's not until the book is done and the story told, and then you surface back into the real world with your heart thumping. Absolutely fabulous.

I couldnt put this book down, the suspense keeps you there and the romance is sweet and hot. Ms. Jennings did a fabulous job with the story line which was original and it ends happily as all romance novels do.
