#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLING AUTHOR VINCE FLYNN’S MOST EXHILARATING
POLITICAL THRILLER
When Washington, D.C.’s National Counterterrorism Center is struck by a series of devastating explosions, the results are catastrophic—185 killed, including public officials and CIA employees. Such an act of extreme violence calls for extreme measures—and elite counterterrorism operative Mitch Rapp, joining forces with trusted team member Mike Nash, finds himself in the frustrating position of having to illustrate the realities of national security to government officials up in arms over the agents who rushed in to save countless American lives. Meanwhile, with three al Qaeda terrorists still at large and Nash traumatized by the horrors he witnessed during the attack, Rapp must help his friend while threading his way through the naysayers on Capitol Hill—and silently, swiftly, do what he must for the sake of his country and the pursuit of honor.

I would like to apologize for some of the confusion that occurred for those of you who read Kill Shot in the digital format. We thought readers would enjoy being able to read excerpts from all of my backlist, but as it turns out, we've heard otherwise from many of you.
All of this free material was counted as part of the book and led readers to believe they still have 29% of the book left to read when in fact Kill Shot has just ended. Managing your expectations is something I take very seriously and I understand your frustration. If I was on a plane and I thought I was only two thirds of the way through a book and it abruptly ended I would be very disappointed.
We heard you and we fixed this. We have taken out the free sample chapters and should have this problem rectified. I appreciate your patience on the matter and I apologize for any disappointment or frustration that it has caused.
Sincerely, Vince Flynn
The fifth of seven children, Vince Flynn was born in St. Paul, Minnesota, in 1966. He graduated from the St. Thomas Academy in 1984, and the University of St. Thomas with a degree in economics in 1988.
After college he went to work for Kraft General Foods where he was an account and sales marketing specialist.
In 1990 he left Kraft to accept an aviation candidate slot with the United States Marine Corps. One week before leaving for Officers Candidate School, he was medically disqualified from the Marine Aviation Program, due to several concussions and convulsive seizures he suffered growing up. While trying to obtain a medical waiver for his condition, he started thinking about writing a book. This was a very unusual choice for Flynn since he had been diagnosed with dyslexia in grade school and had struggled with reading and writing all his life.
Having been stymied by the Marine Corps, Flynn returned to the nine-to-five grind and took a job with United Properties, a commercial real estate company in the Twin Cities. During his spare time he worked on an idea he had for a book. After two years with United Properties he decided to take a big gamble. He quit his job, moved to Colorado, and began working full time on what would eventually become Term Limits.
Like many struggling artists before him, he bartended at night and wrote during the day. Five years and more than sixty rejection letters later he took the unusual step of self-publishing his first novel. The book went to number one in the Twin Cities, and within a week had a new agent and two-book deal with Pocket Books, a Simon & Schuster imprint.
Term Limits hit the New York Times bestseller list in paperback and started a trend for all of Flynn's novels. Since then, his books have become perennial bestsellers in both paperback and hardcover, and he has become known for his research and prescient warnings about the rise of Islamic Radical Fundamentalism and terrorism. Read by current and former presidents, foreign heads of state, and intelligence professionals around the world, Flynn's novels are taken so seriously one high-ranking CIA official told his people, "I want you to read Flynn's books and start thinking about how we can more effectively wage this war on terror."
October 2007 marked another milestone in Flynn's career when his ninth political thriller, Protect and Defend, became a #1 New York Times bestseller. A few months later, CBS Films optioned the rights for Flynn's Mitch Rapp character with the intention of creating a character-based, action-thriller movie franchise. Lorenzo di Bonaventura, who previously launched the Harry Potter and Matrix films as head of production at Warner Bros., and Nick Wechsler (We Own the Night, Reservation Road) will produce the films.
Flynn's 10th hardcover, Extreme Measures, was published in October 2008. It was also a #1 New York Times bestseller. His most recent novel, Kill Shot, was published in Fenbruary 2012.
The Mitch Rapp story begins with American Assassin, followed by Kill Shot Transfer of Power, The Third Option, Separation of Power, Executive Power, Memorial Day, Consent to Kill, Act of Treason, Protect and Defend, Extreme Measures and Pursuit of Honor.
Influences: Ernest Hemingway, Robert Ludlum, Tom Clancy, J.R.R. Tolkien, Gore Vidal, and John Irving. Flynn lives in the Twin Cities with his wife and three children.
As a huge Vince Flynn fan, I ran out and purchased this the minute the bookstore opened this morning and then sat and read it for most of the day. I think this is his best book in the last five years or so.
If you read Vince Flynn, then you know you can depend on him to tell it like it is with regards to Washington politics and terrorism through his political thrillers and in particular his hero Mitch Rapp. This book is off and running from the first sentence and doesn't stop until the end.
The book continues where Flynn's Extreme Measures: A Thriller (Mitch Rapp Novels) left off and opens after 185 people are killed in Washington DC; many at the National Counterterrorism Center and they include senators, staff, and cabinet. Mitch Rapp has rounded up the terrorists, but three escape and the chase is on. While Rapp is trying to find the escaped terrorists before they kill again, he is being investigated over his interrogation methods in Extreme Measures. Rapp also has to contend with Glen Adams, Inspector General of the CIA who wants to bring Rapp down via a Deep Throat scheme.
Mitch Rapp is both a simple and yet a complicated hero. He is single minded in his pursuit of America's safety. He is a pragmatic operative in terms of how he looks at terrorism and has little time for the games politicians play. Vince Flynn has developed a strong hero with many layers that when delicately pulled back reveal a complicated man on a mission to counteract terrorism; sanctioned or not. He'll do what is necessary to keep America safe.
I hate to get too specific since this is a thriller and it is easy to give spoilers that will ruin the read for folks, but this book rocks! Flynn has really managed to revitalize the series with this offering!

I bought the Kindle version of this book the day it came out - yes, I did receive $9.99 worth of value out of it as an entertainment factor. Flynn still writes a good story but, in my opinion, i think it's time to give Mitch Rapp a break in the action as things are coming fairly predictable. Here's the book outline (as well as several of the latest Rapp series books): a terrorist commits a vile act - in this case a continuation of the last story, the President says go get them but don't involve me for political cover, someone in Congress has a burning desire to crater the CIA in general and Mitch Rapp in particular, Mitch kills a bunch of people as judge/jury/executioner, and Rapp saves the day once again.
Again, I certainly think the price and entertainment value were in line. However, I think Vince Flynn is a great writer, but I'd like to see a new twist or plot develop from him vs. the tried and true Mitch Rapp cash machine. I think I will wait a little longer from the release date before buying the next one.

I loved this book. Vince Flynn is a very entertaining author. I enjoy all of his books. If you're looking for great literature this is not the book for you, but if you are looking for an exciting read buy this book. The book follows Mitch Rapp and company as they track down Saudi terrorists in the U.S. The reason this book is so great is that it is entertaining and fun from start to finish. Many other authors who write spy novel get caught up in the details and go off on unnecessary tangents throughout their books. Flynn doesn't do that. His books are focused and exciting. If you are a fan of the CIA and hate the PC culture in the United States you'll love this book and the main character, Mitch Rapp.
