On the Road to Peace,
By the lady poet "msshay" (Detroit, MI United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: In Pursuit of Peace: 21 Ways to Conquer Anxiety, Fear, and Discontentment (Meyer, Joyce) (Hardcover)
What an awesome and excellent book. Inspirational books can be hard to read because they require an open mind, honesty, and work. I usually do not finish an inspirational book and new ones just gather dust on my bookshelf. In Pursuit of Peace is one of the best books I have read. I finished it in a month's time. I took my time to read it and I even highlit and marked throughout the book. It is now amongst my books of reference. I know I will need to reinfore the lessons. I love Joyce's honesty. She admits what are/were her challenges and what is taking her to over come them. This book along with Managing Your Emotions are the only books of hers I have finished and both are good. I recommend this book for people who are just plain tired of trying to be happy and live a joyous life. In Pursuit of Peace is an excellent book on the road to peace. Life is too short and peace makes the ride easier.

Just What I Needed!,
By Beach Bum "CMW" (Everett, Wa) - See all my reviews
This review is from: In Pursuit of Peace: 21 Ways to Conquer Anxiety, Fear, and Discontentment (Meyer, Joyce) (Hardcover)
I have watched her on TV a few times and really enjoyed her program, but I have never read one of her books before. In fact, I've never read a Christian/self-help type book before. Her message is exactly what I needed to read. This book has helped me slow down and keep my priorities in order. More importantly, it's helped me strengthen my walk with God. Thank you JMM! I'm sure I'll re-read this book as I feel the need.

This review is from: In Pursuit of Peace: 21 Ways to Conquer Anxiety, Fear, and Discontentment (Meyer, Joyce) (Hardcover)
Joyce Meyer is authoritative in her writing because she struggled with the very issues discussed in this book before learning how to appropriate the peace of God she says is available to us as Christians. In fact, she's honest enough to point out certain areas that are still challenging to her. Knowing the principles is the beginning, applying them is where the peace activation kicks in.She begins this study with the issue of being able to recognize what you can change and what you cannot change and acting on that discernment. Some of the very practical matters she discusses is that you have to take care of yourself if you're going to get along with other people. That includes something as basic as rest. I found her discussion on knowledge not being all its cracked up to be to really hit the spot. She pointed out that in some situations it's just better not to know certain things, for example if someone is saying something negative about you, it's better just to not know. Her husband Dave comes across in this book as a true saint, both in the literal and cliche sense. She points out that in the early years of their marriage when she was struggling with these things, Dave gave the best sermons possible, those lived in the crucible of the real world.
