2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed
The audio tape contains useful information; however, I was disappointed that Joyce Meyers was not the actual speaker. I have listened to other audio cds of hers and found them to be not only useful but entertaining as well. I found my mind wandering often as I listened to Pat Lentz speak on the CDs.

What an awesome and excellent book. Inspirational books can be hard to read because they require an open mind, honesty, and work. I usually do not finish an inspirational book and new ones just gather dust on my bookshelf.

In Pursuit of Peace is one of the best books I have read. I finished it in a month's time. I took my time to read it and I even highlit and marked throughout the book. It is now amongst my books of reference. I know I will need to reinfore the lessons.

I love Joyce's honesty. She admits what are/were her challenges and what is taking her to over come them. This book along with Managing Your Emotions are the only books of hers I have finished and both are good.

I recommend this book for people who are just plain tired of trying to be happy and live a joyous life. In Pursuit of Peace is an excellent book on the road to peace. Life is too short and peace makes the ride easier.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just What I Needed!, October 26, 2004
This review is from: In Pursuit of Peace: 21 Ways to Conquer Anxiety, Fear, and Discontentment (Meyer, Joyce) (Hardcover)
I have watched her on TV a few times and really enjoyed her program, but I have never read one of her books before. In fact, I've never read a Christian/self-help type book before. Her message is exactly what I needed to read. This book has helped me slow down and keep my priorities in order. More importantly, it's helped me strengthen my walk with God. Thank you JMM! I'm sure I'll re-read this book as I feel the need.

5.0 out of 5 stars Authoritative, Practical, Biblical, March 27, 2005
By
This review is from: In Pursuit of Peace: 21 Ways to Conquer Anxiety, Fear, and Discontentment (Meyer, Joyce) (Hardcover)
Joyce Meyer is authoritative in her writing because she struggled with the very issues discussed in this book before learning how to appropriate the peace of God she says is available to us as Christians. In fact, she's honest enough to point out certain areas that are still challenging to her. Knowing the principles is the beginning, applying them is where the peace activation kicks in.

She begins this study with the issue of being able to recognize what you can change and what you cannot change and acting on that discernment. Some of the very practical matters she discusses is that you have to take care of yourself if you're going to get along with other people. That includes something as basic as rest.

I found her discussion on knowledge not being all its cracked up to be to really hit the spot. She pointed out that in some situations it's just better not to know certain things, for example if someone is saying something negative about you, it's better just to not know.

Her husband Dave comes across in this book as a true saint, both in the literal and cliche sense. She points out that in the early years of their marriage when she was struggling with these things, Dave gave the best sermons possible, those lived in the crucible of the real world.

5.0 out of 5 stars I TRUST JOYCE MEYER UNSTINTINGLY, August 14, 2006
This review is from: In Pursuit of Peace: 21 Ways to Conquer Anxiety, Fear, and Discontentment (Meyer, Joyce) (Hardcover)
"If we speak badly about ourselves, we will feel condemned. Let's actively apply what Jesus taught in the Scripture above to speak positively about ourselves as the first step to overcoming insecurity, and never speak negatively about yourself. Speak words that empower you- not words that weaken you."

The reason that I trust this lady so much is because she is so strongly anointed by the Holy Spirit, and she writes about the serious matters which we need to address, matters we need to have spoken out, matters we need to hear. To say that Mrs. Meyer is a great teacher would be an understatement, and in In Pursuit of Peace, she has now taught me how I can have this peace and really, which is not truly hard, if we follow the rules, and lean on God's wonderful and powerful hand and His grace in our daily lives.
Some of the ways of keeping peace in our lives as suggested by Mrs. Meyer is to stop being double minded. Our peace can be maintained if we stop this double-mindedness, for changing our mind constantly shows instability and is not a good sign, plus double-mindedness steals our peace. Jesus intercedes for us so we should now relax, knowing that we have our Saviour who loves us carrying our burdens. Other ways of pursuing peace are:-

Not overloading our day with too many things. Knowing your limits will help you take care of your schedule.

Take a humble position and so avoid strife, and we shall experience peace.

Designate help when you have overload.

Accept yourself, and value yourself, as children of God, and you shall have peace.

Stop comparing yourself with others; focus on Jesus.

Look after you financials in a wise way, and if you cannot do that, get someone to help you.

Resist anxiety, which steals you, joy.

Don't think of another task without finishing the first.

Set boundaries for your friends and family so that they would not turn up into our lives whenever they feel like, forcing us to drop our work-load, and to sit down and sort-of entertain them.

These things and so much more, are offered to us, to show us how we can have peace and pursue it with all of our hearts.
This book is highly recommended! Enjoy!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Yes, Peace Is Possible - with Him!, January 5, 2006
This review is from: In Pursuit of Peace: 21 Ways to Conquer Anxiety, Fear, and Discontentment (Meyer, Joyce) (Hardcover)
I love Joyce's deep spiritual wisdom based on the Word of God as well as her practicality in every day situations. She teaches us to be honest in looking first at our own weaknesses and then - with His help and relying on Him - we can start to change.

Powerful and.. best of all, yes, it works!

5.0 out of 5 stars Joyce Meyer speaks on my level!, January 16, 2006
This review is from: In Pursuit of Peace: 21 Ways to Conquer Anxiety, Fear, and Discontentment (Meyer, Joyce) (Hardcover)
This was my first book to read from Joyce Meyer. I had seen her on TV a few times and her books got really good reviews on here so I thought I would give it a try especially since a lot of her topics seem to apply to my life. Like most books the first chapter you were trying to push through but after that I couldn't get enough!!! She speaks down to earth and I don't have to try and figure out what she is saying and read it over and over again trying to figure it out. It was fun to read and there is a lot to be taken from it and could be ready many times over. I am reading "Battlefield of the Mond" now. I can't say that I like supporting millionaire TV preachers but I am hoping they are honest and sincere. If not we still learn from them!

4.0 out of 5 stars A book to not overlook, December 17, 2005
This review is from: In Pursuit of Peace: 21 Ways to Conquer Anxiety, Fear, and Discontentment (Meyer, Joyce) (Hardcover)
Joyce Meyer really focused on an area where we all need to work. How many times could anyone one of us, made a smarter choice in how we would interact with another? Joyce teaches us in this one, that we all need to be more aware of what we do, say, and even think, of our fellow man(or woman). A lot of wisdom in this one. Good work Joyce.

This review is from: In Pursuit of Peace: 21 Ways to Conquer Anxiety, Fear, and Discontentment (Meyer, Joyce) (Hardcover)
Once again, Joyce Meyer has produced an inspiring, Biblical-centered book that is sure to change your life (if the principles are actually put into practice). In this book, Joyce focuses on different ways to overcome fear in order to enjoy peace in your life. She thoroughly discusses ways to release your life to God and follow His will instead of your own understanding and desires. Ultimately, this book can guide you to peace in your life, in addition to many other things that are mentioned in the book. However, I highly recommend this book to anyone, especially those in desperate search of serenity in their lives. This book can certainly pave the way for a peaceful journey.

5.0 out of 5 stars Read it twice, May 22, 2006
This review is from: In Pursuit of Peace: 21 Ways to Conquer Anxiety, Fear, and Discontentment (Meyer, Joyce) (Hardcover)
This has got to be the best book Joyce has ever written, and I've read just about all of them. They were all good, but this is just incredible. She makes you want to run out and start putting God's way into action as you are reading it. Gave me a fresh start in my Born-Again walk. Thank Jesus for Joyce!!!!

I have become a big fan of Joyce Meyer. My spouse has commented that he sees a big difference in me since I have been listening to CDs by Joyce Meyer. I feel different, calmer, better somehow. Progress in spiritual maturity can be difficult to measure, but life feels better in every area for me lately. What comes to mind is that old saying, "when the student is ready, the teacher appears". Thank you, Joyce.
