4.0 out of 5 stars There's a lot of potential here, but this album falls short of 'awesome', June 25, 2008
By Ben "Pizza Enthusiast" (Woodbury, Mn USA) - See all my reviews
Before I get into my review, I'll just say this: I've had the privilege of being able to follow Throw the Fight from the beginning. Since Throw the Fight is a local band where I'm from, I discovered them before they even released their four-track EP. I've seen them live. I've talked to these guys (and I must say, they're really cool. There's none of that typical musician arrogance from these guys). I've even been asked by one of their guitarists for feedback regarding a few of their songs. But anyway, the album...

To give you an idea of what Throw the Fight sounds like, their sound focuses on catchy, upbeat riffs with clean vocals and a touch of screaming. The lyrics aren't necessarily the most original, but the sincerity is definitely there.

This record starts off fast with the catchy track "Ready For War", then moves right into "Weakest Hour" without slowing down much. The third song, "His Blood, My Hands" is my personal favorite. The insanely catchy chorus on this track is what sparked my interest in the band in the first place. The next three songs on the album don't stand out, but they each have a bright moment or two. Fortunately, the next two, "Into the Fire" and "It's For You", are both catchy and memorable enough to make up for the previous three. The closer on this album, "Vital Signs", isn't special, and it just didn't seem like the right choice to end the album with.

The bottom line: Throw the Fight demonstrates their potential on this album, especially with the songs "Ready For War", "His Blood, My Hands", and "Into the Fire", but they failed to blow me away. Clocking in at almost exactly 34 minutes, this is by no means a lengthy album either.

Overall, a solid first effort from a young band with a bright future.
