5.0 out of 5 stars An old fave, November 7, 2007
By
This review is from: Push Play for PMC (DVD)
This was one of the first video's I bought on learning to use and work with PMC/metalclay - and it is still one of my fave's. The style of the video itself is comfortable and easy going, something I enjoy having on in the background in my studio. I have bought and watched I think every video DVD learning ever made on metal clay and jewellery techniques and this, in my opinion, is one of the better metal clay videos. Tim Mcreight and Celie Fago are both excellent jewellers and each has a very different style so seeing them bounce thoughts off each other is a learning experience. You know that they both know all that thier asking, but its still a good format for an instructional vid. First Tim goes through a ring making technique thats serendipidous in design and he gives tips and advice on sizing a ring from metal clay (Which shrinks during firing)without the need for any of the now available ring sizing pellets or moulds - these are still useful but if unavailable, tims method works well). Then celie demonstrates a simple project that looks good. She shows how to get a deep texture and curved shape and walks us through each step of her cuneiform pendant. Then tim does a button example using oranges as mould forms - something which will fire up possibilities in every creative mind. It is all very simple but good foundation skills for all metal clay workers. Celie's next part is her dry assembing method using thick slip and bone dry pieces. You get to see samples and snippets of her work as she goes. She also shows a simple and elegant bead form using pmc shards spackled on with thick slip. (Over a glue coated cranberry). They both discuss firing and go through the kiln program and putting pieces in, all the ways of doing this, including how to support dimensional forms etc. Then they discuss finishing options and show how they do it and also show patinating with liver of sulphur - which, in my opinion, every silver jeweller needs to know. Although this video is now slightly dated I still have it as one of my fave's and I honestly do own every other metal clay vid ever made. My hope is that one or the other or both tim and celie will collaborate on another dvd with many of the techniques now going on in metal clay - advanced techniques, hopefully. (I do send them an email every now and then prodding for this, so hopefully!!) There is a lot of beginner stuff out there for metal clay artists - this is a quality production and hopefully they'll do more in this vein but for advanced metal clay. Anyone looking for visual learning in metal clay who doesn't already own this I would reccomend it and would have thought that it would be enjoyed by most of the PMC/metal clay community.
**NB; this is one of the earlier video's on PMC so it only deals with PMC standard and PMC+.... It explains thier makeup too.

5.0 out of 5 stars Push Play For PMC Review, July 9, 2009
This review is from: Push Play for PMC (DVD)
I found this DVD to be very informative. For beginners, there are quite a few techniques that are demonstrated and talked about in depth. I have been working with PMC for 5 years and I still came away with some great tips. Celie Fago and Tim McCreight work very well together and are excellent teachers.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not so good, December 6, 2008

I have been looking for a good video product about PMC to share with my glass class and am very disappointed by this DVD. The production values are pretty poor and overall it is just a decent effort for amateurs. It is not something that I can run in a class. Oh! well, the search continues.
