5.0 out of 5 stars Dub Masterpiece, February 10, 2005
By
Steven R. Nalepa (Los Angeles, CA United States) - See all my reviews

This review is from: Push Pull (Audio CD)
This album is a refreshing treat for the ears: complex, subtle, and loaded with brilliant ideas. It is clear that a lot of love went into making this record. Every time you listen you catch a new burst of inspiration from its beautiful melodies, deep dubby basslines and intricate textures. I love the way he incorporates found sounds, making rhythm tracks from a cat purr for example. This album is a masterpiece which you can listen to again and again, and I highly recommend it no matter what style of music you are into.

5.0 out of 5 stars After several listens, I must agree with my fellow reviewer here - this IS a dub masterpiece (arguably) - only for genre fans, June 19, 2005
This review is from: Push Pull (Audio CD)
When I first heard "The Push Pull" at the radio station I work at, I instantly liked it. I didn't instantly think it was a classic, but I at least KNEW it was good (the title track was my favorite at the time). In a world where a lot of electronica music sounds relatively the same, "The Push Pull" manages to sound familiar-yet-very-different at the same time. It's all just very very interesting to listen to. It's pretty much a dub album with indescribable electronic blips and bloops - it's certainly original sounding. Every song here is interesting to listen to, even if they're not all as catchy as the first four tracks. I would argue that non-genre fans probably won't like it, but you never know. Electronica fans will definitely love its catchiness and intricacies. If you liked this album I would also highly recommend Lusine's "Serial Hodgepodge" as well as (though not as much) Proem's "Socially Inept", both of which also came out this year. Highly recommended!

Highlights include:
the entire album!
