5.0 out of 5 stars Push the River, Lauren Ellis
Where has this girl been! I missed her concert here a week or so ago, but she had such a great write up it our local paper that I went online to check her out. After listening to a sample or two, I ordered her album. Now I can't wait for her next one. As a Bonnie Raitt fan, I can say that Lauren has a little softer sound, which in my view makes her even better! What a...

1.0 out of 5 stars Great expectations, but didn't pan out
I bought this on a friend's recommendation, hoping to find the "next great" undiscovered blues artist. As I listened, I kept wanting to like this CD, but it never really grabbed me and pulled me in. Unfortunately, the songs all sound the same...mellow, clean, but no edge, no life, no guts. I was impressed at first to see so many original songs, but the music and...

5.0 out of 5 stars Lauren definitely exceeded my expectations!, November 24, 2003
This review is from: Push the River (Audio CD)
This girl just won me over! I was introduced to her music only days ago, so I didn't know what to expect. Boy, was I ever surprised! Whew! She's definitely going places, and I for one, wouldn't mind going along for the ride! I can't stop listening to the CD, which I got the day of her show here in West Plains, Missouri. That was so neat, I got her to autograph it for me. I have the first CD, Push the River. I love it all. Count on Me, All or Nothing, Mockingbird Blues, Real Love, they are all good tunes. She has another one out too, Feels Like Family, which I'm gettin' soon, as well as her third one, which she did songs from, at the show. Although it isn't out, soon as it is, I'll buy it too. Push the River has some impressive musicians on it, as well as some guests, including Roy Bittan from the E Street Band, Bruce Springsteen's band. Her band at the show was awesome to say the least. Very good. I was so impressed, as it was in a small venue. But that was a big plus too, to be introduced to new music in an intimate setting, well, you can't get any better than that. Need I say more? I will anyway! All it took was a taste, and I was hooked. She's the slide queen! Look out Bonnie Raitt! For all you fans of blues, R&B, and slide guitar work, you're in for some fine listening. I love this kind of music, as well as the traditional blues, and good old rock & roll too. If you're like me, you'll never shut the CD player off. She's a fine song writer, and knows what she's doing. And she's in for a long ride. All the way to the top! You go girl! Keep it up Lauren!

5.0 out of 5 stars More than just a slide player..., December 1, 2001
This review is from: Push the River (Audio CD)
I heard one of Lauren's tunes at MP3.com that prompted me to track down and order Lauren Ellis' Push The River CD. Boy, was I in for a surprise!

When female "bluesy" guitarists are promoted as in the vein of Bonnie Raitt, etc., I am usually somewhat impressed by the guitar playing but disappointed by thin song writing, lame production (or over production) - stuff that makes me kinda wish I hadn't spent the coinage. Not so here.

Take a chance on this CD and you will hear, not just a talented female slide guitarist, you will hear a guitarist and singer and songwriter whose artistic depth (staying in the slide zone) reminds me of Lowell George. This gal has got the stuff! Buy this CD - some day you'll say to friends, "I was into Lauren's music back before she busted through real big."

Trust me on this. You won't regret it. It's rich.

5.0 out of 5 stars Move Over Bonnie Raitt, May 18, 2001

I just saw Lauren in concert and immediately bought the CD. She plays a great slide guitar as well as a tasty lead. Her voice is great and distinctive. The songs on her CD are an impressive collection of songs and you'll see why she's won awards for her guitar playing. Count On Me, No Reply, Mockingbird Blues and All or Nothing demand listening over and over again. But, by no means are they the only great songs...the whole album is a virtual greatest hits. I can't take it out of my CD player! Buy the CD and see her live if you can.

Lauren is probably the best female guitar player I have ever heard & is a strong singer/songwriter as well. Wish she would move back to California. Pick up a copy.

Stumbled on Lauren and her group in a club in LA- and was hooked. Thrilled her CD is as good as she is live!!! Lauren is one AWESOME guitarist- slide, fingerpicking and rhythmn. Rare to find all three in one person. She definitely can give Bonnie Raitt (one of MY heroes) a run for the money. Lauren's sexy and not overly sweet voice has an edge that makes you want to listen over and over and over. Her songs have melodies that haunt or get your toes tapping and you can actually hum or sing them! Terrific lyrical hooks, wide musical range and actual depth. Give me MORE!!!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Slide Chic!, April 21, 2000
This review is from: Push the River (Audio CD)
Lauren Ellis has command of the craft on this debut release, Push The River. From great songs to great vocals, this maiden voyage into popcraft is already well worth the price of admission. Add to the mix the superior guitar tones, world-class slide dexterity and tasteful fills, and you have a treasurable find on your hands - as worthy as any spontaneous music purchase you've made since 7th grade.
