Stories, Poems and Essays from Small Presses,
By Bonnie Brody "Book Lover and Knitter" (Port St. Lucie, FL) - See all my reviews (VINE VOICE) (TOP 100 REVIEWER)
This review is from: The Pushcart Prize XI: Best of the Small Presses...With an Index to the First Eleven Volumes : An Annual Small Press Reader/1986-87 (Hardcover)
Included in Pushcart Prize XI, are stories, essays and poems from small presses. Most were very good to phenomenal. My favorites were the following:Lawns by Mona Simpson - This is a short story about a college girl who steals while working in her school post office. As the story unfolds, we see how this is tragically related to her years of sexual abuse by her father. Not-Knowing by Donald Barthelme - An essay on art, literature, and knowing. My Legacy by Don Zacharia - This is a memoir of an old-time Jewish communist, poet and anarchist. Writing in the Cold by Ted Solotaroff- An essay on writing and writers. There are also excellent pieces by Francine Prose, Richard Burgin, Richard Ford and Alice Adams. I highly recommend this and all the issues in the Pushcart Press series.
