Finally, the wait is over. A couple of months ago I heard that the soundtrack from the first season of PUSHING DAISIES would be coming out on CD, and I've been practically shaking with anticipation ever since the news appeared. It's here!
There are so many reasons why this CD is so wonderful. First and foremost, it's the music from the best show currently on television. (Unfortunately, that statement will soon be obsolete, stupid ABC.) Hearing the CD brings to mind the brilliant characters and visuals of this most original show. Jim Dooley's cues are playful, lush, moving, evocative and quite varied in scope. While some of the music cues are short, there are plenty of them here. There's a total of more than 70 minutes of music on this disc, so you definitely get your money's worth. What makes the CD truly great, of course, is the inclusion of songs by Kristin Chenoweth and Ellen Greene. While each only gets one song to sing solo and a third song is sung as a duet, these are the frosting on the PUSHING DAISIES musical cake. To hear true musical genius going on, listen to the PUSHING DAISIES theme underlying "Morning Has Broken." It's breathtaking. I fervently hope that Varese Sarabande sees fit to issue a soundtrack CD for the second season (if only to get Kristin Chenoweth's rendition of "Eternal Flame"). But, for now, I'm elated about this release. I'll probably fall asleep tonight with visions of Ned, Chuck, Olive, Emerson, Vivian and Lily dancing in my head...

Amazing...as expected,

As I was hoping, and expecting, this CD is wonderful! It's such a shame the show was cancelled, but I'm just so thankful that this CD actually still came out. I had heard about it a month or so ago, but once it was announced that production was ceasing on the show, all my hopes were dashed for this CD actually being released. But as I said, the CD is a great piece of work for fans of the show, whether you watched it religiously, or occassionaly. Enjoy!!

.....of what most people's brain can comprehend; "Pushing Daisies" was genius, pure and simple. For a show that only lasted two seasons, the character development, complexity, and warmth this show posesses is unparallelled. One main reason for this magnificent feat is due to the incredible underscore that runs throught every episode. Combine that with the singing talents of Ellen Greene and Kristin Chenoweth and you have something that television screens have not seen in many many years and will, unfortunately, most likely not be seen again for quite a while.
My only complaint about this fantastic soundtrack is that it lacks "Eternal Flame" sung by Olive (Kristin Chenoweth) in season two. The genius of placing that song in the scene is probably lost by just listening to the cd, but who doesn't want to hear KC belt it out better than Susanna Hoffs?
