5.0 out of 5 stars So great, I wish I could give it 10 stars
Finally, the wait is over. A couple of months ago I heard that the soundtrack from the first season of PUSHING DAISIES would be coming out on CD, and I've been practically shaking with anticipation ever since the news appeared. It's here!

1.0 out of 5 stars I want the songs, not the musical score.
There are so many wonderful songs from Pushing Daisies. Varese has included the score music rather than including more vocal performances. I wouldn't expect anything else from them, but I can hope for something different. If the balance on the disc had been 95% songs and 5% score, rather than the other way around, then this would have been a very different review.

Finally, the wait is over. A couple of months ago I heard that the soundtrack from the first season of PUSHING DAISIES would be coming out on CD, and I've been practically shaking with anticipation ever since the news appeared. It's here!

There are so many reasons why this CD is so wonderful. First and foremost, it's the music from the best show currently on television. (Unfortunately, that statement will soon be obsolete, stupid ABC.) Hearing the CD brings to mind the brilliant characters and visuals of this most original show.

Jim Dooley's cues are playful, lush, moving, evocative and quite varied in scope. While some of the music cues are short, there are plenty of them here. There's a total of more than 70 minutes of music on this disc, so you definitely get your money's worth.

What makes the CD truly great, of course, is the inclusion of songs by Kristin Chenoweth and Ellen Greene. While each only gets one song to sing solo and a third song is sung as a duet, these are the frosting on the PUSHING DAISIES musical cake. To hear true musical genius going on, listen to the PUSHING DAISIES theme underlying "Morning Has Broken." It's breathtaking.

I fervently hope that Varese Sarabande sees fit to issue a soundtrack CD for the second season (if only to get Kristin Chenoweth's rendition of "Eternal Flame"). But, for now, I'm elated about this release. I'll probably fall asleep tonight with visions of Ned, Chuck, Olive, Emerson, Vivian and Lily dancing in my head...

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing...as expected, December 26, 2008

As I was hoping, and expecting, this CD is wonderful! It's such a shame the show was cancelled, but I'm just so thankful that this CD actually still came out. I had heard about it a month or so ago, but once it was announced that production was ceasing on the show, all my hopes were dashed for this CD actually being released. But as I said, the CD is a great piece of work for fans of the show, whether you watched it religiously, or occassionaly. Enjoy!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Pushing the limit...., September 18, 2009

.....of what most people's brain can comprehend; "Pushing Daisies" was genius, pure and simple. For a show that only lasted two seasons, the character development, complexity, and warmth this show posesses is unparallelled. One main reason for this magnificent feat is due to the incredible underscore that runs throught every episode. Combine that with the singing talents of Ellen Greene and Kristin Chenoweth and you have something that television screens have not seen in many many years and will, unfortunately, most likely not be seen again for quite a while.
My only complaint about this fantastic soundtrack is that it lacks "Eternal Flame" sung by Olive (Kristin Chenoweth) in season two. The genius of placing that song in the scene is probably lost by just listening to the cd, but who doesn't want to hear KC belt it out better than Susanna Hoffs?

4.0 out of 5 stars Not to put too fine a point on it, June 13, 2009

Thankfully the creators released this as a final send-off to an absolutely brilliant television experience. The arrangements are varied yet maintain a common thread (listen for variations on the theme throughout - including the marvelous three vocal tracks that begin the album).
A word of caution before purchasing - you have to take the third track, Birdhouse in Your Soul, off repeat long enough to enjoy the rest of the album...but that's really hard to do.

The only reason I didn't rate this 5 stars is because I wish all the songs were in a better order. But it's like having the DVD on all the time in my head. Great music.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Emmy Winning Soundtrack of the Pie Hole is Here!, February 1, 2009
This review is from: Pushing Daisies (Audio CD)
It is a rare thing for almost every scene in a television series to be scored. The music is a key element in creating the fairy tale world of "Pushing Daisies" that is unlike any other show on television. The score is masterfully created by Emmy winning Composer, Jim Dooley with 35 tracks that give listeners a tasty musical entrée of the entire 1st Season of "Pushing Daisies". The soundtrack roughly goes in order of the episodes, but Mr. Dooley really has placed the order of the tracks to ensure that the album flows musically, thus creating a lovely stand alone album. There is also a piece from the 2nd Season, "Chuck's Swing"! Notably Dooley had time to record full versions of "Morning Has Broken", "Hopelessly Devoted to You" and "Birdhouse In Your Soul" featured on the show and sung by Kristin Chenoweth and Ellen Greene. The musical numbers are delightful; the score is whimsical, touching, heartbreaking and exciting while also giving a big nod musically to old Hollywood and Big Band Sound in "Chuck's Swing", "Plastic Kiss" and "Waltz". I highly recommend these as well as "Chuck's News Flash", "Jeanine Pie", Wilfred Woodruff's War", "Chucky Bees" and "Death Came". The whole album is a must have! The score is what you can imagine might be playing at the Pie Hole if you stopped by for a slice of Ned's Georgia Peach Cobbler; it has an American feel that says "Pie is home. People always come home". Fans of the show will certainly enjoy Dooley's album and newcomers please pull up a chair, grab a slice of pie and slip into the world of "Pushing Daisies" where magic happens in every episode.

Finally the music from the first season of this wonderful show is available! Jim Dooley's score is a memorable element of each episode. Unfortunately the show has been cancelled, but fans can still listen to the music and watch the dvds.

I've been wanting this forever and it's everything I hoped for - music straight from this wonderful show. I would appreciate it if there was a second volume released since there were new songs in the second season.
