5.0 out of 5 stars So good
there isn't much to say about this album, other than the fact that it is just awesome. I love every track on it - the combination of their riffs and melodies makes for such great music. it was recorded a little loud though so make sure you spot the volume a bit before listening, but man...it's good. you don't need the other albums, IMO - this is quintessential...

Disregard all the hype coming out of Austin for one second. Pretend you never heard of Fastball, and stop wondering what kind of public relations firm brainstormed the "Live Music Capital of the World" line, and actually convinced journalists nationwide to repeat it ad nauseum. Musicians in Austin hate the music scene - the saturation, the difficulty in getting...

5.0 out of 5 stars Start With This One, September 24, 2005

King Lerxst (Austin, Texas United States) - See all my reviews

If you are new to Pushmonkey start with this CD. This band put out an independent album in 1994 and then toured like madmen for 3 years. Most of these songs were played during those years and are by far their best stuff. I was lucky enough to see lots of those shows but you can still buy this album and hear them for yourself. Every song is good and you will be a Pushmonkey fan if you just give this disc a spin. Unfortunately they didn't hit it big with their major label debut and I can't really tell you why because there are some great songs on here.

P.S. "Maybe" is a remake of an earlier song "Sweet Carribean Bungalow". I think "Mabye" is better but check out their album Maize for the original.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Kept Secret, November 27, 2000

Andrew Z Nelson (Columbus, Georgia United States) - See all my reviews

Pushmonkey has got to be one of the hardest rocking bands out there. With a sound reminiscent of Metallica and the harmony of Alice in Chains, Pushmonkey has created a melodic sound that is still worthy of hardcore headbanging. From the hard rocking first and last tracks ("Lefty" and "Maybe") to the quieter "Loner" and "Cut the Cord" to the chilling story of "Limitless," this album this album is the best kept secret of the rock world today. Even the most critical will not be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Godly Display of New-Age Ska with Hard Rock in there, October 15, 2000
By
Sean Garner (Fort Dodge, Iowa) - See all my reviews

I first heard of this band from WWF Superstars, the song "Cut The Cord" a slow... thick toned emotional song... I looked them up, and found the song "Handslide" and god I was hooked... Tony Parks has a Red Hot Chili Peppers-esque voice to him, and his music is very upbeat, with catchy and even tongue-tying lyrics (No Dumb Wrong, Caught My Mind) the guitars in the songs Lefty and Maybe move perfectly in-sync with the drums, so you get this spectacular blaring sound that makes you want to listen to the album start to finish... Tony's trumpet add's the bit of Ska to the scene, while the guitars pull it back into a hard rock/metal standpoint. While their major label CD literally pales in comparison to their first CD, Maize, which has the original Maybe (Sweet Caribbean Bungalow) and very lewd and sexual lyrics, describing their catchphrase "Professional Nympho Music", this one certainly has some potential...

5.0 out of 5 stars These guys are even better live, October 27, 1999
This review is from: Pushmonkey (Audio CD)
I had never heard of Pushmonkey untill I went to Ozzfest '99 in West Palm Beach, FL. Normally I listen to very heavy music (Soulfly, System of a Down, Fear Factory) but these guys were absolutley amazing. I had the unique chance to get all of their autographs on a frizbee at Woodstock '99, which now hangs on my wall. I recommend this cd to anyone and everyone, but if youve seen them live you know that they sound even better than the CD does! Another great band at Ozzfest was (hed)pe, very good cd!

5.0 out of 5 stars Rock On Pushmonkey, May 30, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Pushmonkey (Audio CD)
When a friend first told me you gotta hear Pushmonkey I went "Who?" and then he made me listen to No Dumb Wrong and Loner, I was hooked, next chance I had I was at Best Buy, buying the CD. Since then I have seen them live and they put on the best live show I have ever seen (and I've seen a lot). Lefty is a great starter but Maybe is an even better closer. And what's in between will keep you wanting more. Gems are Caught My Mind, Spider, Astray Red, No Dumb Wrong, Maybe and I could list the entire CD but I think you get the point, if nothing give these guys a chance, you won't regret it.

5.0 out of 5 stars If you buy one cd this year, buy Pushmonkey..., February 16, 1999

This review is from: Pushmonkey (Audio CD)
Pushmonkey pushes the proverbial musical envelope. From start to finish, Pushmonkey delivers incredible harmonies that flow eloquently into the rash guitars through to the sounds of the horns in the background. If you like Alternative music that strays from what has become a genre of itself, you need to hear this cd. If you are looking for quality that rocks, buy this cd. Once you've listened to this cd once or twice, you'll simply be hooked. And once you think you have the best songs figured out....guess what---you don't. All of a sudden out of nowhere you'll hear a song you've heard a dozen times before but this time it strikes you different and you're dying because you've missed this song for all this time. I'm telling you...I'm a big fan of Creed-->because their music means something. I love Finger Eleven...because they are true to themselves. The Offspring rock, and the sounds of Tool are very much their own. Combine these things and you have Pushmonkey. If you buy one cd this year....buy Pushmonkey. (I had a friend that said Pushmonkey's sound is like "Duran Duran meets Stabbing Westward"...I can't say I disagree.)

5.0 out of 5 stars This one Rocks ! ! !, April 9, 2011

This one Rocks ! The Drummer is the most impressive, but they are all great ! Like it a lot ! Besides Shak Nasti's 2nd CD, A Way Inside, also available here at Amazon, this one is also one of the best CD's I've heard in years ! I hope to see Shak Nasti's new 3rd CD released sometime this summer. I have heard a few of the new Tracks, and it appears their 3rd CD will be equally as great as their first 2. Like Pushmonkey, Shak Nasti deserves National acclaim in my opinion !---------- Tony-Joe
