Brandy, by far one of the most talented singers of her generation, has seen her commercial success dwindle in recent years. A lot of this could be attributed to her inability to figure out her place as an artist. She has struggled with finding the right sound and maintaining her commercial relevancy. As she has forayed more into pop music she has distanced herself from her R&B roots, to her detriment.

Her last lead-off single, Right Here(Departed) from the Human album, was an inspirational pop mid-tempo, and struggled to find consistent rotation on the airwaves, and essentially doomed the project as a whole. Right Here (Departed) lacked the sassy vocal stylings and infectious grooves of her earlier hits and what audiences have come to associate her with. But "Put It Down" puts Brandy right back on track.

With its hard bassline and grittyness, this song is very different from what many have come to expect from her; yet she brings the undeniable essence of Brandy to the song with her beautifully delivered vocals, harmonies (and even rapping) and you come to realize that this song actually has Brandy all over it. The song is produced by Bangladesh and written by Sean Garrett and the three of them have an undeniable chemistry- something Brandy has lacked with a creative team since she parted ways with her former collaborator, Rodney Jerkins. I have to give props to Sean Garrett for writing a simple, yet unforgettable tune. The best thing I can say about the songwriting is that it is smart; its simple, but not dumbed-down, very catchy, and it is free of the usual cliche's found in R&B/hip-hop music. Bangladesh (and co-producer Sean Garrett) delivered an infectious beat that stands out, yet doesn't overpower Brandy's beautiful vocals; they compliment each other perfectly.

Brandy just does it everytime. It seems each and everytime I hear something from Brandy, it never seems to be disappointing. She just gets better each time after time. I can see this song going beyond digital, going beyond radio. It just new refreshing and rejuvenating. Love how she kept up with the time. She truly deserves it and many more. Put it Down is a very catchy song that has a lot of potential in it. This truly shows Brady at her best. Her harmonies, melodies, and runs proves that she is definitely an icon. Even the reinvention of each of her albums shows the vocal qualities that she possess. I think the incorporation of Bran' Nu on the single was great. Brandy really shines through on this album. B-ROCKA is back. New Era in the making....

So, we got the hits coming, she's all over T.V again now all we need is some endorsements and we are on the way!!! Put It Down is a great re-introduction for Brandy. It gives us signature Brandy harmonies, runs, and range along with a current sound to pull in the younger generation. I know in the upcoming weeks Bran is gonna be everywhere and so is this song. Make sure ya'll are requesting at your local radio stations and purchasing. Real talent needs to be recognized and R&B needs to comeback. 2Eleven will change the game of R&B music, she's done it before, trust she will do it again. Brandy is hungry, and contrary to "Flop" speculations, this song is still very new, has just been sent to radio, the video is in the works and the reception of the songs is outstanding if you couldn't tell by these reviews. So Congratulations in advance Brandy, your Starz got your back and with the road you're on so will your new future Starz. Let's get this to Number 1 where it belongs.

One of R&B's finest treasures and praised vocalists, Brandy Norwood steps out on the scene once again to give the public new music since her last effort, Human, which was released 4 years ago in 2008. This comes in the form of a Sean Garrett penned track entitled "Put It Down". Experimenting with a new sound, and a more sensual yet in-your-face lyrical prowess, she succeeds in satisfying old fans and pulling in a more younger audience. Not only has she stayed true to who she is as an artist, but for the first time, she has taken a risk with her sound, delivering a more mainstream, futuristic R&B sound, with the help of R&B heartthrob Chris Brown. The melody of the chorus is infectious and the Bangladesh produced beat is simple, yet full of attack. Brandy has also showcased a much richer tone in her voice, a deeper, huskier tone that she has recently come to embrace. She has never sounded more confident on a song. Chris Brown adds an additional touch of character to the song, speaking up for the men who "put[s] it down right, [and making women] fall in love". It is also refreshing to hear a feel good record from Brandy once again, as the majority of her singles a la 2000 and beyond have been songs about heartbreak and disappointment.
