4.0 out of 5 stars Rutgers University Project on Economics and Children, February 21, 2009
This review is from: Put It On the List (Hardcover)
Like so many households, the chicken family keeps running out of food items and daily essentials. No syrup to go with the pancakes on Monday, no toothpaste to go with the toothbrushes on Tuesday, and no milk to go with the cookies on Wednesday. What a relief when it's finally shopping day on Thursday. But the chickens learn the hard way (what, no toilet paper?!) that shopping without a list quickly leads to the same problem. This amusing book provides a good opportunity to introduce young children to some basic concepts in economics, including consumers, goods, and household work.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hilarious, adorable, and a pure joy!, July 3, 2011
This review is from: Put It On the List (Hardcover)
This book has several parts that make my 6 year old daughter and myself laugh out loud! She asks me to read it again and again..its so cute! This would make a great gift & wonderful read aloud. We've enjoyed it for over a year now and still going strong...asks to read it at least twice a week, and we giggle ourselves silly, especially in the middle where "Mom flipped out!" My daughter loves the images of the little baby chicken spilling the OJ and dropping the oranges...those images always get her roaring! What I also love about this book is that it gives kids a perspective that life isn't perfect, we forget things, and then you adjust, and keep on living the journey! Great book all around...we love it!!

Seriously adorable book that has a family of chicks (even the mommy doesn't appear to age into a chicken!) that keep running out of things, including toilet paper.

The illustrations are really neat, and the minimal style of faces shows so much expression. Lots of items are shown that toddlers can identify to be found in the store.

It also shows the day that Mama Chicken returns from shopping to find out what wasn't on the list-she flips out and the results are very fun.
