Not Bad For An Absolute Beginner on WHAT kind of part time business to start,
By
This review is from: Put More Cash in Your Pocket: Turn What You Know into Dough (Paperback)
I wish this book had a little more substance to it.
If you are a person who needs additional income to pay debt etc., and you have NO CLUE what you can do to make extra money on the side, you may find this book helpful--as a start. What the book has going for it: has you do an inventory of your skills, hobbies, and possessions to come up with an idea for extra cash shows you how to do BASIC - VERY VERY BASIC market research to see if your idea is feasable both from a money AND time standpoint Shows you how to price your product competitively based on your previous research 4 case studies of clients who have done this idea Weaknesses: th Seems to be an advertisement for her website and consulting services more depth needed in certain areas such as: issues related to working/running a business out of your home, tax complications Too many forms used as filler THAT said, I think if you are someone wanting to start a little side business with no intention of growing it to a full time career or you are a teenager toying with the idea of making some extra money in today's tight job market you will find this helpful. For more extra income ideas, I'd check out Jennifer Bayse Sanders' The Weekend Entrepreneur. For a more indepth treatment of issues involving those working from home, I would check out Barbara Brebec's Homemade Money: Bringing In The Bucks

The 21st Century Lemonade Stand,
By
This review is from: Put More Cash in Your Pocket: Turn What You Know into Dough (Paperback)
Not to be argumentative but I totally disagree with the negative review saying the book was a waste of anything. Yes, it's basic in many ways to some of us but it was written with the intention to help those that need basic info. For heaven's sake, it says right on the back cover that she's talking about a (21st Century) "Lemonade Stand." That's pretty obvious that it's basic information. It's about how to get started making extra money fast doing what you already know how to do so you can supplement your income.
Most people make starting a business way too hard and never get out of the "thinking about it" stage. Showing you simple ways to get started opens the door for a lot of people. That's a good thing. And who says that "cross-stitched pillows" (Elvis or otherwise) wouldn't sell? (Btw, she doesn't mention that particular business model.) Who would have thought that scrapbooking would become so popular that nearly every town in the country would have a store for that? Lots of great businesses were started on a shoestring and with SEEMINGLY "small ideas." I bought this book for my daughter and she got a lot of great ideas from it - and motivation. In fact, she started talking about it with her teenage daughter and got her thinking about starting a business as well. I have no doubt that it has been an inspiration and quick start guide for both of them. (They both are getting started as I write this.) Many people get lost in the details and don't have the confidence to begin. This book helps them. Oh, and the "fill in the blank" sections are useful, too. They get people thinking about (and answering) the right questions. It should also be mentioned that those pages are a very, very, very small percentage of the book. A negative point in another review was about licensing and such. That's different depending on where you live and she does mention it as well as the tax implications. I recommend this book to anyone that has never started a business or never got one off the ground and making money. It's a simple guide that will help you figure out the best business for you, how to get started and how to make it grow. Don't be intimidated by naysayers. We all have them in our lives and we need to learn to ignore them. Negativity never helps anyone and stops a lot of people in their tracks... she talks about that, too. I hope this review helps.

I got this book along with The 4-Hour Workweek: Escape 9-5, Live Anywhere, and Join the New Rich and Attract Money and More: How you can begin enjoying a prosperous, happy, purposeful life...today. Overall I found it a very interesting mix of book. While my favorite is the Attract Money and More book, each is good in its own way.
What I liked best about this book is how "accessible" it is. As I read it, I got a ton of ideas that I could start right away. The problem (if you can call it that) is that they tended to be small, short-term ideas. I don't feel this is going to lead to a career change, at least not for me. However, I do have to remember that Hewlett-Packard started with a couple of guys building stuff in their garage and Microsoft was started by Bill Gates writing some software in his dorm room, so who knows? Best idea I got from the book: My son turns 15 next month, so I'm going to have him read this and I'm going to work with him to make "entrepreneur" be his summer job next year. I think this book will help us get that started. One other thing to add: If you are going to try to add a little side business, I recommend the 4-Hour Workweek to help you create the time you need to make it happen. And, if you really want to change the way you think about your career, money, and success, read Attract Money and More. That will help you make all the other stuff work for you.

Awesome Information,

I like Loral's writing style. The book was informative and easy to read. It took no time to get through and I made notes to some of the resources presented in the book. I enjoy the case studies of little guys that make it big, proving it CAN be done. Loral Langemeier isn't aiming at million dollar ideas here but a realistic goal of a few hundred bucks a month to pursue personal and financial goals. It's all about passion as well as finding a filling a need for your potential customers. Hey, a huge corporation could come from your little home business but it takes time to build that kind of income. It's about baby steps for your lemonaid stand. Look around you... there are so many products out there that could be made better, cheaper, faster, smaller, bigger or with better support and customer service. You don't have to be the only in your industry so long as you're the BEST. Put More Cash in Your Pocket will inspire and motivate you but YOU have to do the rest. Action speaks louder than words because silence won't get you anywhere. Check out this book, read it, and then DO something to create the dream business and dream life you've wanted. You don't have to wait to be rich, for the kids to go to school, for the winning lottery numbers or whatever you've been waiting for. Start today to do something. When you do what you love, the money will follow. Every journey begins with a single step. Get off your butt!!!

This book was an immense waste of time/money/hope,

Loral (aka Captain Obvious) paints a perfect world where everyone really cares about and is willing to pay you for your useless talents. In this book you will learn how to turn great wastes of time like calligraphy, scrap booking, and telling other people your dumb opinions in to COLD HARD CASH! This book also tells tales of people who already came up with the idea of starting a side business as if this buffoon gave them the idea.
There are detailed steps on how to develop your own business. For example, think and exist. Thank God she included multiple, full page guided note areas instead of useful information. How else could I scribe words onto paper without these blank pages? If only someone could invent loose leaf paper...Hey there's another business idea! I can only describe this book as terrible and useless. Not one word or phrase seems to be thought out in a meaningful way to help anyone with anything. In fact, don't, I repeat, don't try any tips from this book less you be ostracized by your community for being that person who will not stop pushing their cross-stitched Elvis pillows on the neighbors. You are welcome for saving you 10 dollars...

This book asks what would you do with $500 to $1000 extra per month. And then tells you how to get it with what you already know. Easy steps are detailed. It is well written and an easy read.

I recommend this book in my workshops. Many of my workshop participants are looking for ways to generate income and this book is ideal for them. Loral shows you ways to leverage off what you already know and are good at to create another stream of income. It is well worth the read.
