Unmatched Blues Talent,
By Randy W Morriss (Wichita, KS) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Put Your Trust in Me (Audio CD)
Johnny Rawls creates blues with a talent that few have. His style combines a wonderful voice with lyrics that are tops. I only recently found this great talent.....and was fortunate to see a live performance recently in my area. Johnny uses a terrific balance of horns, woodwinds and great guitar to create a contemporary blues sound that keeps you totally involved. This cd has nothing but great sounds and it leaves you wanting more of this unbeleivable talent that deserves much broader recognition. You will be unable to resist his other CD's. I pray more of his work is shared soon!! Enjoy!

Some of the greatest soul-blues around!,
By
This review is from: Put Your Trust in Me (Audio CD)
I'm usually not very much moved by soul-blues nor contemporary soul or R&B.
I just prefer keep on diggin' the Soul Stirrers, Sam Cooke, the Swan Silvertones, and, on the other "bluer" side, Magic Sam or Albert King. But this veteran of the "chiltn' circuit" is really something else: great vocals and guitar, superb composer and arranger, excellent musicians around (including Eddie Kirkland and Phil Guy on this one). I've get some of his previous JSP's in the late 1990's, and those ones pleased me. But I think this is the best of the lot. Poor art cover and design (as usual on this company) But fantastic stuff! 5/5

LOVE IT!,

This review is from: Put Your Trust in Me (Audio CD)
If you love soul, and you love the blues, then this CD is a needed addition to your collection. His hot, slinky sound is out front in "'Should Be At Work' (I'm Makin' Love Instead)", "It Ain't Nothin' But the Truth" and "I Wanna Come Home." ALL the cuts are excellent, and this CD shows how much Mr. Rawls has evolved since his first CD with JSP ("Here We Go"; which is also an excellent choice). As an added treat, he's joined by old friends Eddie Kirkland and Phil Guy on a couple of the cuts. These guys sound like they had a good time making this cd, which makes it all the better to listen to. I've just about worn mine out!

If you can catch him live, go for it!,

I recently saw Johnny and his band at Mugzees in Rochester MN. I got to talk to him a little bit. I was very impressed by the writing, his guitar playing and his singing. Music is his life he said and you can tell by the music. The crowd really got into it and live he does some good stuff like Marvin Gaye and other artists too. SOul and blues. Good stuff. I got this cd and he signed it for me. See them live!Lucy is a little nasty but it's a fun one when they play it live. He's a good showman and knows how to work a crowd. COmes from years and years playing in clubs all over. I agree with the other review --- I am surprised he is not yet more well known.
