Over many preschoolers' heads...,
By Tiare Solorzano "Mother of 3, teacher, reader... (Citrus Heights, CA United States) - See all my reviews (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Putt-Putt Travels Through Time (CD-ROM)
Of course, I am the odd one out here, but I was very disappointed in this game. After reading the reviews here and at Children's Software Review, we bought this game for our 3 yr. old (now almost 4). Although he finds parts of this game enjoyable, it has a very complex storyline and subject matter for young children. The activities are interesting, some more challenging than others, which is probably what keeps the children so interested. Children are expected to help Putt Putt the car travel throughout different time periods (Medieval, Old West, Futuristic City). Along the way, they will encounter different "puzzles." Children must explore the game and find different hidden items in order to solve the puzzles and advance in the game. Some of the puzzles are wonderful thinking activities, while others are simply puzzling, even to grownups. Because of the advanced storyline (dealing with time travel through past, present, and future), I would not give this game my highest recommendations. There are too many references to particular years and ages that just won't compute with the little guys. Also, this is not an easy game for the youngest preschoolers to use without a lot of guidance and suggestions from a gownup, so be prepared to sit alongside your child while s/he plays (which is what we should be doing anyway, right?). If you are looking for a similar game that is more developmentally appropriate, I highly recommend Ollo and the Sunny Valley Fair, a very well put-together game.

A litte harder than the other Putt-Putts,
By Work-at-home-Mom "Work-at-home-Mom" (Indiana, United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Putt-Putt Travels Through Time (CD-ROM)
My 2 1/2 year old son immediately became enthralled with Putt-Putt Saves and Zoo and Putt-Putt Enters the Race. They are attractive, have lively music, voice, and characters, teach valuable problem solving skills, and best of all...keep the attention of a toddler! He is pretty active, but will sit for up to 20 minutes at a time working Putt-Putt through his various activities and tasks. Putt-Putt Travels Through Time has the same high-quality graphics, but is a little tougher. Even I can't figure out all the processes you have to go through sometimes, as the scenarios change from play to play. More appropriate for the 5-8 year old, I believe. At 3, he usually gets frustrated with this one before he finishes the game.

fun software for older little kids,

If your child has played beginning software like JumpStart and is ready to move on to more advanced gameplay, Humongous Entertainment's Putt-Putt series (and Freddi Fish and Pajama Sam, as well) are an excellent choice. These titles take the cognitive tasks up a notch as children must accumulate specific items, navigate a number of locations, and use their problem-solving skills to help their friends and achieve larger goals. Along the way, kind and gentle Putt-Putt and his dog Pep will meet a number of nice characters, visit a variety of interesting locations and play games as they complete the larger tasks. In Putt-Putt Travels in Time, the overarching goal is to collect the items that have been sucked into a malfunctioning time machine, but along the way he will perform a variety of smaller tasks. I would rate this specific game a little lower than the other Putt-Putt titles because it is more complex and harder to follow, as the events take place in different tunnels -- prehistory, the Old West, a medieval castle and the future. This title may be more appropriate for the older kids in the suggested age range of 3-8 years old. This is a still a fun game in a great series. We have 5 Putt-Putt titles and enjoy them all.

My Daughter love Putt Putt,
By
This review is from: Putt-Putt Travels Through Time (CD-ROM)
I was looking for games to help my daughter learn to use the computer, and that was fun. Of course my daughter is 8 years old now, but at the time she was around 5. The graphics are cartoonist and it really appealed to my daughter. It was challenging but not too hard for her to understand. The interface was very easy since all she had to do is click items and move them to these little bubbles at the bottom of the screen. This was not her first Putt Putt game, but because she enjoyed her first one I had to get more. I even enjoyed playing it the first time. I highly recommend it along with other humongous games.

the best of the putt putts,
By Rosanne (nz) - See all my reviews

My kids adored putt putt, the car always ends up there favorite colour, with my youngest its green, my girl turns it blue and my eldest ends up with a red car. This one is the most randomised of the lot, four things to find in four time zones. Each of the things has a place to hide in each time zone. In any given game each time zone can only hide one item. So there are sixteen hiding places and sixteen different puzzles/sequences to follow to find each item and you only get four of those sixteen in any game. So you can see that this game has great replayability. You seldom get exactly the same game. On top of this you have to help out Toby the train and there are two things that it could be either fill him with water or feed his fire, another random puzzle. This is a fun game and a must have for kids who adore putt putt, a real favorite with younger kids and one they will come back to again and again.

Another Winner!,

This is another winning game from Humongous Entertainment! My girls are 4 & 3 and will sit for hours to play these games. This one takes a little more thought as you go from one era in time to another - but teaches so much! Don't tell your kids that they are learning something tho, cuz they'll never know with all the fun they are having! I highly recommend this game & all of the Humongous games! Freddi Fish, Pajama Sam, Spy fox - all worth the money!! press F1 key to get hints on the game play!

3 year old LOVES Putt Putt,
By
This review is from: Putt-Putt Travels Through Time (CD-ROM)
I came on to Amazon to see if there were other titles in the Putt Putt series since my son loves this game so much. I would not have guess that he would get the game as well as he has. He is able to navigate the entire game and solve the problems which can be quite complex (in one senerio Putt Putt can't get past some thorny vines in the Dinosaur world - Max figured out that he needed the armor from the Castle world which he had to buy with a nickel picked up from Western World). Putt Putt helps you along and everything is explained very well.
The best part of the game is that it changes every time it is played. Every child has different learning levels, especially at this age (3-5) so it may not work out for your child as it does mine.

Its amazing how creative this game and all other Putt Putt games are. Don't hesitate to get this for a child of any computer skill level. All the controls are purely intuitive.

A little difficult at first, but worth the effort,

I bought this game in a variety pack at a wholesale store for my 4 year old. At first, he had a little trouble with the game as far as operating the controls and understanding what was expected. Eventually, he got around that and has started playing by himself. As with any kids' software, parents should always play with the children as they start. There will be a learning curve, but you have to keep at it and be patient. This game teaches problem solving, shapes, puzzles, direction following and several other skills. One of the really neat aspects is that you have to go to different areas to find solutions to problems in places you have already been. For instance, you might need something from the Wild West to solve a puzzle in Medieval Land. There is a lot of back and forth, but it is really worth it when your child figures it out. Our son has a speech delay and it has also helped with his word recognition and ability to communicate.

Putt-Putt Travels Through Time,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Putt-Putt Travels Through Time (CD-ROM)
I'm StoryMaker and I am reviewing Putt-Putt TTT! First, we made Action Peps, many pep-like dogs (Pep is also one, but we ussaly call him Regular Pep) and there are Mean Action Putt-Putts (Regular Putt-Putt is good though). This game used to be complex (like other reviews mention) but now we've learned all the answers and it's a bit boring, but there are fun games in most places! I'm not saying them cuz my last review had a [...] bug. And in the castle times you need to put the wheel back on Woodword but you must click the wheel once to do it! Some kids would think you needed to use a tool. It's confusing. But this is a good game, maybe not good for under 6 according to other reviews. Signed, StoryMaker. "Gotta trust the kid's review!" PS: Putt-Putt Circus isn't as fun. It dosen't change.
