Delightful! For those who like Fred Astaire & Gene Kelly...,

This music selection is wonderful! As a young teen in the early to mid-80's, I would spend hours ironing my clothes while listening to this cassette tape (I'm just now ordering the CD as I've nearly worn my tape to bits and as I have just now discovered it on Amazon.com); it made the time almost fly by. Taco gave a new twist to some of the "oldies," thus appealing to a wider audience. He also added some original creations that are quite captivating. I'm just surprised his music didn't catch on; goodness knows numerous prom themes and homecoming floats were inspired by his revival of "Putting on the Ritz." This CD is a charming, often humorous collection that has a "good beat." Be forewarned - you may find yourself tapping your feet and singing along! Actually, this is one of the few music selections my mother and I enjoy together. Whenever I can't find my tape, I know chances are good that she has borrowed it. I can't wait until my CD! arrives. However, in order to ever get to listen to it, I may need to order one for my mother as well. Happy listening!

If "Puttin' on the Ritz" by Taco doesn't put a smile on your face, check your pulse 'cause you may be dead. I've been listening to this album for 10 years, and have found it to be the perfect party music -- everyone loves it, from twenty-somethings to the swing generation. It makes you happy.

An Amazing Vocalist and the Master of Beats,

Oh Taco. If only we all had your sense of rhythmic style and grace and woodsman like masculanity, we wouldn't be trouble with all those fakers like 2Pac, 50 Cent, Randy Savage, and Falko. Taco is an inspiration to all those who enjoy contemporary, and up to date, music, ice cream, and long walks on the beach. This music can turn any situation into a romantic situation. "On the Ritz" is by far one of the most influential songs of our time, and "Over the Rainbow" started the whole remix fad. P-Diddy, you ain't got nothing on TACO!!!

Mon coeur qui bat...,

Taco is simply wonderful with his inspirational idea to combine old songs with the delicious spicy sounds of the 80s. This is not only for listening, but also for dancing... try it! Besides "Puttin' On The Ritz" and "La Chambre Separée" (in fact the well-known tango "Medialuz"), I would certainly recommend listening (and dancing!) the surprising version of Edith Piaf's "La Vie En Rose" which gives us a worthy glance of France's unforgettable charm... Impossible to forget, therefore: "Et des que je l'aperçois / Alors je sens en moi / Mon coeur qui bat..."

Taco is the king of all music. Anybody who is anybody should bow down in his greatness. If you like Backstreet Boys, Blink 182 or Limp Bizkit, you'll love TACO, believe me. This CD is like food for my soul. It touches me on so many levels. Oh...TACO!

The only thing that makes this album 4 stars instead of 5 is the fact that "Opera Rap" wasn't included and "Somewhere Over The Rainbow" was! Taco is FANTASTIC and under-appreciated. Whatever happened to him? I love the all of his albums and he deserves better reviews than he is given...

Needless to say, I love Taco's work, and this is definitely an ideal introduction to his material, if you're unable to find his original albums. (In the case of those, "After Eight" and "Let's Face The Music" are the natural highlights). "Puttin' On The Ritz" is a great song, and deservedly made the mythic Irving Berlin a success again, becoming a Top 10 hit in 1983 and making Berlin the oldest living songwriter to have a hit on the pop charts. Anyway, aside from bringing more attention to America's best songwriter, Taco was just a fantastic singer/songwriter on his own. The selection here is nice, and even mixes things up a bit at the end with "Superphysical Ressurrection" (from 1984) and "Got To Be Your Lover" (1989). If you're open-minded to alternate renditions of the old standards, then by all means get this album, and become a fan for life!

I grew up on Taco when I was younger and some of my favorite memories are from singing "Singin' in the Rain" in the rain. I let one of my friends listen to it and she loved it, once she listened to it another did. All of my friends now LOVE this charming tape!

Bouncy fun in a jaded time, but there is no sweat in it,

Dissing Taco is just mean. Even if it isn't your bag, Taco (along with his synthesizer-savvy sidekick, "Gern") sang beautifully, and not whimpily. His music was among the finest in the electronic pop explosion of the eighties - rich in texture, bouncy and humorous, and building a bridge to swing jazz so successfully that a Gershwin tune topped the pop charts! Where the music will fail some is in the extent that it is electronically programmed, including a lifeless drum beat. There is no sweat in this music. Backing up Taco's pure tenor voice, it may not be such a surprise why Taco did not find much of an audience in our edgy culture, despite the splash he made with "Puttin' On The Ritz." |
