Wonderful book for children to learn about their ADD/ADHD,

I highly recommend this book for children with ADD/ADHD. It is well written and engaging for the young reader. It is a positive book and does not put down the child. The book includes great exercises and activities for the child to complete after each section so they get to really think about what they read and how it applies to them personally. Great book.

This review is from: Putting on the Brakes: Understanding and Taking Control of Your ADD and ADHD (Paperback)
Attention Deficient Disorder or ADD is an increasingly prevalent condition amongst America's children. Now in a newly revised second edition, "Putting On The Brakes: Understanding And Taking Control Of Your ADD or ADHD" is the collaborative effort of developmental pediatrician and ADD treatment specialist Patricia Q. Quinn (Clinical Assistant Professor of Pediatrics, Georgetown University Medical Center) and educational consultant Judith M. Stern. This thoroughly 'kid friendly' compendium of practical ideas, activities, and insights is specifically designed to help children to manage their attention disorders, make friends, control emotions, and improve their general health. Also available in a hardcover edition, "Putting On The Brakes" is very highly recommended reading and ideal for children ages 8 to 13 (and their parents) having to deal with ADD and ADHD in their daily lives at home and at school.

A Book For Kids, Rather Than Parents,

This review is from: Putting on the Brakes: Understanding and Taking Control of Your ADD and ADHD (Paperback)
This book is refreshing and different. The intended audience of most childhood ADHD books is the parents/caregivers of children with ADHD, but this one focuses on children. Deficits in social skills are one of the biggest challenges facing children who suffer from ADHD, and this books helps ameliorate those deficits by offering tips for improving social interactions. No less important, the author is also a giant in the field ADHD treatment, which makes this work highly recommended.

Very disappointed in the content of the book. Too technical. Not a good book to read-along with your child. And I don't think the book would hold their attention in a silent read. About half way through, it went into our pile of books to be donated to the school.

Offhand I would say this book targets 9-14 year olds, but I used it with my 7 year old, and it was positive, well written, and easy to understand without being babyish. I found this one at a yardsale, and there was a workbook with it of practical skills practice for ADD/ADHD children. As an ADHD adult, I found some of them useful, even though I am not exactly the target audience. This book, and the workbook would be appropriate for high school students, middle school students, and many elementary students.

Review for Putting on the Brakes, A book about ADHD for kids,
This review is from: Putting on the Brakes: Understanding and Taking Control of Your ADD and ADHD (Hardcover)
I liked this book because it helped my son to understand his ADHD. He's at the age where he believes parents know nothing so it really helped.
