Seriously. Even as Windows was glaring balefully back at me from a low-res desktop without any of my favorite icons, even as my modem refused to reinstall -- how bad could it be, when I had groovy music like this going in the background?I got this collection after my local jazz station played a track from it. I'd barely heard of any of the artists but I've since looked up a couple of them individually and bought their CDs. I'm surprised they aren't much more widely known and played, considering how good they are!

Exceptional and knowing compilation,
This review is from: Putumayo Presents: Women of Jazz (Audio CD)
Typically, when jazz compilations are put together they're pretty mainstream/lame and include the standard big names (Holiday, Fitzgerald, Vaughn) so there is nothing fresh or new for an educated jazz listener. This cd is a wonderful exception. There are some known and some not-so-known singers on this cd but they are all masterful. The songs stick with you and the arrangements are intriguing and engaging. Particularly special: Shall We Dance? by Stacey Kent, It Could Happen to You by Della Griffin, and Dance Me to the End of Love by Madeleine Peyroux.

Best jazz vocal album I've heard in awhile. Various styles keep the tracks from being ho-hum. Some are standards, others are new. All are fresh and lyrical. Best album I've bought in awhile.

I happened upon this collection at a local book store/ coffee shop. It looked interesting so I gave it a try. What an incredible find. I discovered several wonderful jazz singers that are contemporary yet harken back to a golden age. Silky, smooth ectasy. This has become one of my all time favorite collections. If you enjoy the greats such as Sarah V. try this for a wonderful update. This is a door you will want to walk through.

This album presents recent Jazz music by ladies from North America. After hearing rave reviews about Putumayo albums, I bought this album for my wife as she is a jazz music fan. I found the music boring and wish I had not bought the album.
