I got this product on my Kindle when it was the WHOLE trilogy for free! I don't always like to spend money on something that I don't really know what it is so this workede out nicely. THe pictures are very nicely detailed and it's just one of those cool things to take in the car that everyone wants to help you solve. It's nice being the kind of center of attention :)

(I published earlier and slightly different versions of this review on Triond's Quazen website on 8 May 2012 and on May 9 2012 on Expertscolumn)

The members of the Grabarchuk family, for those unfamiliar with them, make puzzles for Puzzles.com. "Trilogy 303 Puzzle Quizzes" collects into one omnibus volume their three previous Kindle books : "Puzzlebook: 100 Puzzle Quizzes (color and interactive!)," "Puzzlebook: 101 Puzzle Quizzes (color and interactive!)" and "Puzzlebook: 102 Puzzle Quizzes (color and interactive!)." The puzzles are colorful, geometric and ingenious.

Puzzles

The puzzles are indeed colorful. Most of the puzzles are graphic and geometric, so color helps the solver visualize. Moreover, color gives the puzzle creator an additional tool. The 19th century puzzler Sam Loyd once wrote: "By giving no two pieces the same shape, other ways of doing the puzzle are prevented, and the feat is more difficult of accomplishment." Similarly, giving the pieces of a geometrical puzzle different colors and then making the solution depend on putting the right colors together offers another way for a puzzle creator to make a puzzle with a unique solution.

The Grabarchuks' collection is varied, but the puzzles fall into a number of types. Here are descriptions of a few to give readers a taste:

Counting

A number of puzzles require the solver to count the number of times a given geometrical figure or letter appears in a complex design.

Geometry

Plenty of puzzles present the solver with views of four very similar geometrical figures and ask which one isn't like the others.

Matchsticks

In these puzzles, the solver is presented with matchsticks placed in a geometrical array.

The puzzlebook was available for free for a limited number of days. I was fortunate to pick this up then. I absolutely love the puzzles. All the puzzles are rated as per perceived difficulty. The solution is not visible when you click on the wrong answer - that is good. My 11 year old son and I often do the puzzles together. We just love these. All the puzzles we have attempted so far are unique (in the sense that I have not come across these before). I have not yet finished the book, but I would recommend this to everyone, not just those who love puzzles, even if it is no longer available for free.

"What number, when you add a quarter of itself, gives fifteen?" Back in 1650BC, the scribe Ahmes commented "This is a really old puzzle". Many puzzle books tend to recycle old problems. Rosa's Puzzles, for example, has mostly 100+ year old puzzles.

The Grabarchuk family has creative talent that puzzle book collectors crave. The Big, Big, Big Book of Brainteasers is the best puzzle book of the last decade. The Grabarchuks also wrote New Puzzle Classics and Modern Classic Puzzles for Mensa, and LetsTans, Cut The Shapes, and Strimko for Kindle apps.

This is a collection of their Puzzlebook series, with 100, 101, and 102 puzzle quizzes, all collected together. All are beautifully presented, and will give your brain a workout.

Excellent for us seniors to keep our minds sharp. Don't always know how I got the answer but makes me feel good when I get it right.

There are some challenges in this book. It has a variety of different brain teasers. Some are fairly easy while some are fairly difficult. I like it because I can keep it on my phone and have something pass the time while waiting for something (e.g. doctor's office, automobile, etc.)

This is the first puzzle book I have come across for my kindle. I find it enjoyable. I am not one to want to know how the correct answer was achieved; that is what my brain function is meant to accomplish.
This book is not meant for a one time sitting - ENJOY

Somehow I accidentally downloaded this product onto my Kindle, thinking that it was free. In spite of the fact that it wasn't my original intention to buy this item, I was happy with my purchase. It is a fun thing to do, for both my son (10) and I when we have a little time to spare. It's a great thing to be able to challenge the mind in interesting ways.
