Customer Reviews

The speakers have great sound.
Arnold E Bolin
If you are looking for something that can handle a little more than low level sound, spend the money and get something a little higher end.
greg hutto
To ship a product and label it hazardous so it cant be returned is dishonest.

My new HDTV had poor performance speakers. I disconnected the speakers and externally
wired in a pair of Pyle Home PCB4BK 4Inch 200 Watt Mini Cube Bookshelf Speakers. The
sound is great. These speakers are small enough to be positioned in the space between
the TV base stand and the bottom of my TV. They are not obvious as being add-on speakers.

These do not have any highs. They are decent, but you would assume a small speaker would excel in highs, since lows will not be able to be reproduced. Oh, yeah if you try to return these here's what AMAZON says: "For safety reasons, items that are classified as hazardous materials or use flammable liquids or gases cannot be returned to Amazon.com. Customers should dispose of hazardous materials according to Local, State and Federal regulations. Customers should contact their local government or local waste company for directions on how to dispose of Household Hazardous Waste."

Not as crispy and clear as my original satellites on my JVC system. But they can handle the power. Well engineered but too boomy for my taste. Good value for the price.

I build my own home speakers, so I purchased these strictly to use as a "test bed" for various drivers. Basically I'll disassemble them, take out the driver Pyle has in there now and replace it with other drivers that I'm interested in evaluating (that's a lot faster and easier then building your own test cabinets). I did, however, run them for a few hours before they were "sacrificed".

Obviously you can forget bass. The size of the driver and cabinet precludes even the slightest pretense at bass, but I imagine there's no one foolish enough to think otherwise. The midrange has decent presence, but surprisingly the treble is weak. Bear in mind I only ran them for 10 hours (maybe even less) so that might have improved over time -- as speakers are wont to do -- but I was a little surprised how lacking it was. There wasn't much in the way of sizzle. Considering there's a whizzer cone, which is specifically designed to focus the high frequencies and aid in their disbursement, I would have thought the top end of the frequency spectrum would have been a bit more pronounced then it turned out to be. Maybe with more time on them it would have been, but I can't say for certain.

Bottom line is these are probably exactly what you think they are, based upon the price; small, inexpensive, non-hi fidelity speakers used for near-field listening. Temper your expectations and they should be fine.

We bought these for my mother-in-law's tv to add additional sound as she is quite hard of hearing. These were intended to be used with the mini power amplifier. However, it was clear she would not be able to operate ANY system except the tv remote and on and off. We returned the amplifier, but were not allowed to return the speakers for "environmental reasons". Amazon could ship them to us, we could not ship them back.

The amplifier from Pyle came defective, speakers are marked 200w but don't sound good, above 40-50 watts. Trying to return but it says - Hazarous material cannot be returned. It is not stated at the purchase level so one could avoid such purchases and there is no clear way of getting to the vendor. Call to vendor so far is not successful.

Got this pair of full range 4" monitors and the Lepai 2020A+ 20watt amp for my father, who has some hearing loss and wears hearing aides all day. At night, he doesn't like to wear them / has to charge them; this is when he watches TV. He wanted small and uncomplicated- that is what I got him. Pretty much as simple as it gets, stereo wise: one L/R input and stereo wire +/-.

One cannot expect extreme low end or high volumes with these monitors. They are four inch cubes with a single, full range driver. They are one step above standard TV speakers but not too far below a Bluetooth portable monitor. They sound good, not great.

About a week after I hooked up this auxiliary sound for Dad's TV, I stumbled upon a pair of Bose bookshelf speakers about a decade old, model unknown. I didn't crack them open but I would guess they were at least two way, probably three, with a 5 or 6 inch woofer. These were in a closet. I brought them to my Dad and questioned why he had me buy speakers when he had these sitting in a closet. He said he forgot about them but to hook them up if they were 'better' than the 4" cubes I am reviewing here. So I hooked up the bigger, more powerful, big brand, more expensive, Bose bookshelf speakers to the Lepai 2020A+.

A week later, ny Dad summoned me back to his house and TV setup. He wanted the Pyle 4" speakers swapped back in and the Bose speakers removed. He said the Bose was muddy and preferred the Pyle cubes! Pretty incredible. He knows nothing of brands or prices or quality or reputation in audio gear. He just knows what sounds good to him and it looks like I guessed right with the Pyle PCB4BK 4 inch speakers.
