I have installed two sets of these now. For main speakers of a basic system, or surround sound speakers they are more than adequate for the average home user. If you are looking for speakers that will blow you away, you should probably look at speakers that cost more than $40 for a pair. In my case I am using them as surround sound speakers for a basic basement system, and they work just fine for that.

There are a few things to keep in mind if you opt to buy a set of these.

1) The speakers come assembled as they will be after you have mounted them in the wall; So you have to dis-assemble them before you can mount them. Removing the grill, and remove the speakers from the mounting bracket by removing the six small screws that holds them together. You have to do this in order to actually use the mounting system.

2) Instead of traditional speaker connections like you find on floor speakers, they have male quick connect spade terminals, so you can either pick up a pack of the female crimp on ends at your local Radio Shack or AutoZone, or you can solder your wires directly on the terminals. I opted to solder mine on for the best possible connection.

3) If you want to paint your speaker grill and mounting bracket a different color than white you can easily do that before you mount them. I recommend spray paint that is safe to use on metals and plastics. My second set is nice dark gray now.

For the $ these speakers are nice. Installation is easy, and fairly fool-proof. I installed 6 in about 3 hours (the wiring was alreay in place). The speakers do come in pairs. They are NOT high-end speakers. To connect the speaker wires, you have to wrap them around connection tabs, versus the normal "insert the wire in to the black or red connection point".
Overall, I'm happy with them.

I received these speakers about a week ago and installed them right away. The first thing to note is that they DO come in pairs - I was not sure about this because I did not see this information anywhere. Needless to say, I ordered two, but I have a place for the other pair as well. Anyway, for anyone that knows anything about speakers, looking at the actual hardware, you can tell that these are not high-end components. The most disconcerting issue is that they do not have standard speaker wire connectors. I'm not sure what the technical term is for the connectors, but basically they are just metal tabs that I believe are meant of soldering your wires onto... this is stupid and they should change this, but I just cut extra exposed wire from my speaker cables and wrapped the wire around them tightly - it worked fine. The packaging came with a wall template for cutting the hole in your drywall - this was very useful. Also, the speaker frames that lock into the wall work very well. The installation other than the wiring was very easy. And the bottom line, I think the speakers sound very good. I am not using these speakers in my home theater set-up - I have some fairly expensive Boston Acoustics speakers for that. I have these set up in another room. Stand-alone, they don't have the best bass - a subwoofer would fix this, but as secondary speakers in a whole house set-up, it all sounds good. I think they would work pretty well in a home theater set-up as well, but like I mentioned, you will need a subwoofer.

First off, the price is for a pair of speakers. That makes it less than $20 a piece. That is insanely cheap for two way speakers. The build quality is actually pretty good! The only slight issue I had is that the mounting frame mount points flexed a little when I tightened them down. Still, they are solidly attached to the ceiling. The pair I received did have spring loaded quick connect terminals for the speaker wire so there was no soldering or having to wrap wire around terminals. They look great when installed.

Probably the most important question with speakers is how do they sound? Well, these do not sound amazing but they did sound better than I expected once I had them installed. From what I remember, there is not crossover on the "woofer" and just a resister to cross over the tweeter. The low end was rather punchy and a little deeper than I expected. The high end is not all that great but serviceable. The tweeter is a little subdued and isn't exactly what I would call crisp BUT still way better than expected. Remember, in this price range, typically you don't even get a tweeter but just a dual-voice "full range" driver. Their sensitivity is rated at 87db but they seem a little worse like maybe 85db but that could either vary depending on installation or just my tainted review based on my mains being very sensitive.

I installed these as rear speakers in my surround system and they work marvelously in that capacity. They would also be sufficient for casual listening or mood music at a party etc. I had to give 5 stars not because they are 5 star speakers but because they are 5 star speakers in this price range.

These are average speakers, which I could figure from the price. I know Pyle isn't some great brand, but they serve my purpose. Positives-They install very easily and sound pretty good. Negatives-The template for the cut out was a little bigger than the speaker. Luckily I always measure first. Also, one of the speakers was damaged. Just a plastic piece of the bracket, so I just hot glued it. It was nothing that was gonna affect the sound quality. Buyer beware.
