I purchased this device to deliver sound to four sets of speakers. Only when I received it and read the instructions did I learn that powering all four sets simultaneously would drop the impedence to a dangerous 2.4 ohms. This low level can damage most amplifiers. I need a selector with impedence protection to deliver sound to all four sets. This selector is useful for switching between speakers, using only up to two sets at a time.

I believe the previous reviewer's concern about impedance protection is unwarranted, as it is my understanding that impedance protection IS INDEED part of the unit's design. The impedence chart that came with the unit is showing the impedence of the switched input to each pair of speakers, NOT the power draw from the amp. In other words, consistent 8 ohm output from the amp is provided and maintained for the benefit of protecting the amp, and is accomplished by reducing the ohm input into multiple pairs of speakers. Both the Pyle unit and the Radio Shack unit do this, but the Pyle unit has the bonus of independent rheostatic volume control for each pair of speakers. I'm very pleased with this unit.

I've been using this about a year already with no complaints. Worth the extra $$$ for a selector with volume control since - as is my case - not all speaker pairs have of the same quality and have different volume levels otherwise. So - with my #1 zone at 50% volume, zone #2 at 75% volume, and zone #3 at 100% volume I have comfortable and equal listening levels in all zones (then i just use the receiver volume to adjust all at once and keep them equal).

good buy. no idea if as previous reviewer says i might be doing damage to my receiver, but since in my case i paid less for the stereo receiver than i did for the speaker selector, i suppose it's a risk i'm willing to take. besides, over a year into it, i've had no problems.

I own a home theater company in Nashville, TN and got a call from a client who moved into a new home. They had speakers all over the home, but the wires were just going straight to a closet and there were no volume controls in any room. The client didn't want anything fancy (or expensive), so I recommended just a receiver and a speaker selector with volume control capability. I haven't used the Pyle products before, but for the money, it seemed like a good choice since the Niles brand is 3 times more expensive. I can tell you that there is a quality difference between the Niles or Speakercraft vs. the Pyle, but the only apparent difference is the way the volume knob turns and can only settle into the appointed positions. So basicially, there are stages of volume that you can have without turning the receiver's main volume up or down. This will not be a problem for amatures, but for someone who is experienced with these kind of products, it will be a little frustrating.- Still, this IS the best product for the money. That is why I am giving it 5 stars.

You could probably spend a lot more for a device like this and not have it work as well. I spent a little time to get my receiver base line volume for each device, ie. iPod, radio, cassette player, and CD player. It works well controlling volume on 4 pairs of speakers-- 3 sets indoors and 1 set outdoors. I'd recommend this product.

When I purchased this I read various reviews saying they thought this had impedance protection conflicting with two that said it didn't. I was mislead by Pyles description of "protection circuitry for smooth, trouble-free operation". After getting my unit I called Pyle and the technical support person was very open in telling me it does lack any impedance protection and using it could harm my new Yamaha receiver I just purchased from Amazon. I also spoke to the people at Yamaha and they confirmed the same thing. I have since replaced this with a TEC-905B speaker selector that meets all my needs.

Works well, so far, but input design is poor and difficult to set up. The inputs are too close together, too shallow and, hence, hard to work with

Needed a no frills device to work with a standard 100 Watt receiver to allow sound in different zones of the house on an as needed basis. Word fantastic. Since this is an unpowered selector and volumn adjuster, power output per channel is limited. Some adjusting of speaker levels at the receiver allowed me to adjust output of standard L+R Front to be equal to the remained, unsplit, surround sound channels.
