Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Pyramid 903G 10 Band HalfDin Power Booster Graphic Equalizer Amplifier (Electronics)
First I would like to say that this review in no way reflects upon Amazon. Amazons customer care and service was excellent. The unit was installed into a 2010 Ford Ranger with the factory head unit. The first 903g I purchased was bad out of the box (left channel failed to function.) The second 903G I received suffers from various problems. The first problem is the wiring coming from the back. It is angled down instead of straight back or up. You loose about 1-2 inchs of wire length which is alot considering the wires are already almost too short to connect to the radio output wires. The second is the endless ground loops I encountered. The grounding inside the unit's case is poor. Even after 2+ days with a multimeter checking and verifying continuity, grounds and soldering on all the wires I still had a horrible alternator whine and ignition noise. I finally purchased a Metra 20amp noise filter and installed it into the 903g's power wire. This didnt solve the noise problen but muted it to the point that you can barely hear it. The 903g produces alot of heat on the back of the case. Hot enough to burn your hand if you leave it there. I feel this is because of the small wire gauge used in its construction creating alot of resistance in the unit. The 903g continues to play and has not switched off or blown a fuse yet so I can only assume this could be it's normal operating temperature. It could also be because of it's half din size. So if you do purchase and install this unit make sure there is plenty of space around the back to help disapate the heat. After all of this and adding 4 Kenwood 6893ps 3 way speakers it doesnt sound too bad. Pyramids customer support stinks. I called them six times and was put on hold for 20+ minutes each time by a receptionist chewing bubble gum and popping it in my ear while she spoke with me. each time I called I got a technician that would go thru the drill of telling me the wiring is wrong, check the grounds put in a ground loop isolator at the RCA jacks (the 903g does not have RCA jacks) etc...... The technicians did not know how to troubleshoot their own product. Take it for what it worth. You get what you pay for. But again Amazon customer service was great and had the second unit to me in three days.
