Book Description

0875865666 978-0875865669 February 1, 2007
The chronology of ancient Egypt and Babylonia is wrong to a dramatic degree, with some major historical events mis-dated almost two thousand years before they actually occurred, according historian Emmet Sweeney. Sweeney argues that the pyramids, for instance, were not built around 2350 BC, as is currently thought, but only around 800 BC. The dating of ancient history is often much more tenuous than most people realize and is not based on science but on venerated literary tradition. This chronology had already been established by the third century BC, when Jewish historians utilizing the "History of Egypt" by the Hellenistic author Manetho sought to link Egypt's history with that of the Bible. The pyramids were partly constructed of hard granite and display in their design a knowledge of Pythagorean geometry, yet in 2350 BC the Egyptians only had copper and flint tools and such principles of mathematics had yet to be formulated. This mystery has led to all sorts of weird and wonderful theorizing - not least the idea that the pyramids were built by aliens or Atlanteans. But revise the date of the pyramids' construction to around 800 BC, when steel tools were available and more sophisticated principles of geometry were widely understood, and the mystery is solved. Sweeney's conclusions are revolutionary but they are in line with a growing number of academics who acknowledge that there may be something radically wrong with ancient chronology. Wolfgang Helck, Germany's foremost Egyptologist, recently admitted that work on chronology "has clearly arrived at a crisis." The Pyramid Age is part of an originally-researched reconstruction, "Ages in Alignment", which begins with the start of literate civilization and ends with the conquest of Alexander. The current volume will be followed by Ramessides, Medes and the Persians. Inspired by Velikovsky's 1952 series "Ages in Chaos," this series seeks to complete the work which Velikovsky commenced, identifying the problems he could not solve and bringing forward a great body of evidence which supports his claims, including the identification of Hatshepsut with the Queen of Sheba. For decades now scholars have attempted to solve the enigma. Yet the answer was stunningly simple, and in front of us all the time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good ideas Bad written, August 16, 2007

It's a great book but it has two negative sides to it. First of all its unnecessarily redundant. Second it is a chaos, no structure at all. All the volumes of this writer could be perfectly put together into a single book without so many repetitions and far better organized. I understand they will make more money selling the pieces separately, but... people will not get the message with these series as they stand now. An example: Sweeney keeps on stating conclusions before systematically proving what he is saying. At the end you get a sense that all you read was 60% conclusions and 40% evidence. not that he doesn't have good evidence but when he mixes it with so many repetitive conclusions the reader forgets about the evidence. Conclusions should be only a minimal part of the book. As it stands people will read the book and not believe it, this is sad because the idea is good and there is solid proof for it.

I recommend this book highly, but the whole field of which this book is a part can make one's head hurt and Emmet Sweeney is a very perplexing writer. Maybe im blind, but i dont think in this book sweeney ever comes right up front and says something like: " Dont ever hold me to this, but it sure seems like there is a triplication of numbered dynastys here; let me explicate." But maybe it's just this reader's failing. if one has tons of curiosity about this subject and true grit, let me make some suggestions. 1. search engine: type in these 3 names TOGETHER: OSMAN ROHL THEAUX. 2. search engine: type in: HEINSOHN RESTORATION OF ANCIENT HISTORY 3.type in: IMAN WILKENS TROJAN KINGS OF BRITAIN. Recommended reading: WHERE TROY ONCE STOOD -WILKENS; EARTH IN UPHEAVAL-VELIKOVSKY; THE BALTIC ORIGINS OF HOMER'S EPIC TALES-VINCI; PATH OF THE POLE-HAPGOOD; INDIA IN GREECE-POCOCKE; CHRISTIANITY AN ANCIENT EGYPTIAN RELIGION- OSMAN; THE HISTORY-HERODOTUS; CATACLYSM!-ALLAN AND DELAIR; CATASTROPHISM AND THE OLD TESTAMENT-PATTEN; ATLANTIS OF THE NORTH-SPANUTH. speculation: herodotus did yeoman's work, but his story must have had its mistiness. could the egyptians, at some small points of time, have been confused with the assyrians? just a thought
