Exactly as described this is a heavy gauge cable with two cast on ends. Just cut off the one you don't need. It was more than long enough for the V-brakes on my MTB. Does NOT include the outer sheath, this is just the inner cable, but if you are just replacing the cable because the end broke off, then this is all you need.
NOTE: You can't cut cables like this with ordinary wire cutters, you need something like: XLC Pro Cable and Housing Cutter or the cable will just fray out on the ends and you'll never get it in the sheath. Alternately you could try soldering the end you want to cut with plumbing solder and cutting it with an abrasive wheel, but buying the cable cutter is so much easier and if you work on your own bike a lot you will want this tool anyway.

I bought this to replace a brake cable on a 10 year old Trek mountain bike. It took about 15 minutes to replace it, but the brake feels and works 'like new.' Having brake cable cutters would have been nice, but a Dremel cut off disc made quick work of cutting the cable. Using scissors or a wire cutter may have caused the cable to fray at the end.

That's what these cables do... they help you STOP! Perfect for reconditioning older brake systems - inexpensive, but very effective.
