This power supply appears to deliver on its specifications, and is compact and light due to the switchmode design. The Pyramid warranty, however, seems designed to discourage warranty returns -- it requires that the returned unit be accompanied by a $15 check to cover "return shipping", and you pay to ship the unit to them. With all that, the warranty does not guarantee that the unit will actually be repaired or replaced.

If you assume that the $15 is a reasonable estimate of the shipping cost, then it will cost you half the Amazon price of a new unit just to take a chance on a warranty repair.

I feel that this is an issue worth commenting on because a previous Pyramid power supply (a 30A switcher) died in service after only 5 months.

I bought this to power a couple of 12v. lights in a rv rehab. I worked for about two hours then there was a popping sound and everything shut off. I had ordered a second unit for another project. I replaced the first unit with the second and so far no problem. I am going to return the first one.

1.0 out of 5 stars absolute garbage but I got a refund, February 25, 2011

Deserves 0 stars. I had a unit on light duty - just 4 amps or so, and it didn't last 3 days.

The seller took it back for a full refund.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pyramid 20 amp power supply, November 23, 2010

I bought this for a rather unusual project. I have a lot of Malibu low voltage lamps and also have three post lamps that use 12 volt RV lamps. I wanted to convert them to low voltage CFL's to reduce power consumption and increase brightness.

I found some Feit 12 volt CFL's but they needed pure DC and not AC.

By replacing my existing transformer with this power supply, I was able to use the CFL's.

Worked out really well and more than doubled the light output on the post lamps.

I needed the power supplies quickly. Found a dealer near the required location that had the power supply and quick delivery. The Pyramid power supplys worked nicely, but one did have a binding on/off switch. Loosening screws and retightening fixed the problem. Light weight allows easy shipping to customer locations for demonstrating mobile radios.

Used it to build a homemade boombox with a car stereo head unit. Has a built in fan but is very quiet. Does not get hot. Nice product.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice Power Supply, August 23, 2010

I have this model that I purchased here at Amazon and the transaction went great and shipping was fast, thanks Amazon. I'm using it to power a car stereo in my workshop and it works great. The only problem I had was every time the power is shut off, the stereo presets are lost because it's like disconnecting the battery in your car so that just didn't cut it for me. I don't recommend anyone doing this unless you're a certified electrician but this is what I did and I know some of you may think that I just voided my warranty and I did but that was my choice: I took the cover off the power supply, took out and by-passed the switch in the unit so the hook-ups on the back are always live when the unit is plugged in. I then added a additional hook-up on the back and also added a 12vdc switch in place of the one that came with the unit. Bottom line is my stereo keeps its memory presets now, unless there's a power outage, and I can still shut the unit off, well, partially anyway. The power supply doesn't get any warmer than something like a computer power supply that is plugged in and on all the time like any other accessory you may have plugged in around your home.
Worked great for me and I would highly recommend this power supply even without doing any modifications.
