Editorial Reviews

Following the OZRIC TENTACLES’ acclaimed 17th full-length studio album, ‘The Hidden Step’, the UK’s premier sonic pioneers release their new mini-album ‘PYRAMIDION’ on 21st May to coincide with their most extensive UK tour for three years. Spanning 24 dates, the tour kicks off on Thursday 3rd May, culminating at London Scala on Thursday 31st May. New five track mini-album, ‘Pyramidion’ follows in the footsteps of ‘The Hidden Step’ with its exotic Egyptian theme, a lifelong obsession of frontman and founder member, Ed Wynne. The title track is a brand new composition, taking its name from the mystical Pyramidion, the capstone on the Great Pyramid which symbolised the meeting of the spiritual world with the physical for the ancient Egyptians. The four other other tracks which make up the mini-album, ‘Aramanu’, ‘Pixel Dream’ ‘Xingu’ and Sultana Detrii' were all recorded live at Sheffield Boardwalk on last year’s sold-out UK tour, making them the first live Ozric Tentacles tracks to be released for 10 years (the last being 1992’s ‘Live Underslunky’ album), and capturing the very essence of the Ozric Tentacles live experience.

3.0 out of 5 stars awesome studio track, ok live stuff, June 13, 2001
By A Customer

The new title track is way cool. The live stuff is pretty good, but the songs are mostly slow or medium tempo. Pixel Dream is more lively, like the studio version, but the jam at the end rambles a bit - with some sketchy drumming! Rad sounds much tighter on the studio stuff overall (drum machines aside). Live Underslunky is much more exciting, but this one has its moments. And at 41 minutes, its as long as some full legnth albums.

4.0 out of 5 stars absolutely cool stuff, October 29, 2001

This is my first experience with Ozrics' live recordings. I like it very much. Especially Pixel Dream is cool. It has a nice flow to it and the break is very energetic. The (studio recorded) title track is absolutely smoking! This is one of the missing links between (progressive) rock and techno-trance. It has sheer energy from start to end; kicks off like some techno tune 'til the guitars kick in, then it really grabs you. Check it out.
