This one really is an INSTANT read digital thermometer. It is in the same chassis as the Ecko model from several years ago but much, much faster. It comes with an extra battery and is a super deal for the money. It is the best digital cooking thermometer I have ever used and I have tried at least four other models.

Pyrex did an excellent job on this thermometer! They did not follow the other companies with this thermometer, the don't use the soft push buttons to turn this on, or to change between Farenheit and Celsius, instead the use a sliding switch which makes the battery life longer because it cannot get turned on in your kitchen drawers, and you don't get annoyed wondering why it is always on Celsius! Amazon has this at a great price point too! I seen this at a disocunt retailer for $15.99, that is double Amazons price. Pyrex has also given you an additional battery for your enjoyment!

This purchase was to replace my old Pyrex digital instant-read thermometer because my husband melted it.
The new one works, but is much harder to read and the buttons are not as user-friendly.

have used on turkey and prime rib. readings are fairly quick. nice to have the sleeve to store in kitchen drawer

This has performed very well - even after being accidentally dropped into the BBQ. Yes, the top came off from the heat, but we were easily able to squish it back on, and it's essentially back to its normal self. Seems to very accurately measure temperatures, and I have not found any problems with washing it. One caveat; it is not INSTANT instant read, but there is a very simple solution if you do not want to sit there holding it in your meat the entire cooking time. Just realize that the temperature will continue to rise, and take out your meat if the thermometer hits perhaps even 10 degrees below your preferred time (more or less, depending on your accepted range of doneness). We've never had such well-cooked meat before getting this...I highly recommend it.

The temperature was never quite right (all of my meats were over cooked - and I started taking them out earlier and earlier) and it broke after about 5 uses.
