5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful design and lifetime warranty....
Unlike the last oven thermometer I bought, this one might just live up to its warranty claims. I found the last one (different brand) we owned was broken and figure it must have happened when it was tossed about in the back of the moving van.

1.0 out of 5 stars Yes, it's a waste of money
Sure, it looks nice -- polished chrome housing, easy-to-read white-on-black numbers, and it has enough heft in-hand to make it feel like a quality instrument. In terms of design, the needle's a little too fat and there are no incremental markings for precise readings. However, the fatal flaw appears to be reliability.

I hung the thermometer in my oven, whereupon first use, it proclaimed that my oven's thermostat was 50 degrees too cool. The second time, 25 degrees hot. The third time, it was right on the nose. The fourth time, the needle never budged off its resting point. And there it has stayed since removed from my oven.

Next time I'll choose more carefully rather than rely on brand name. Corning would do well to revoke the Pyrex-brand license from the manufacturer of this thermometer.

1.0 out of 5 stars Broken Already, February 12, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Pyrex Oven Thermometer (Kitchen)
I bought this on 12/29/02 and had it for a little over 1 month and it is already broken. The needle is stuck on 550 degrees. Very disappointed. I expected better quality from Pyrex.

1.0 out of 5 stars Waste of Money, November 27, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Pyrex Oven Thermometer (Kitchen)
This thermometer quit after about three months. It always 350 whether it is in the oven or sitting on the kitchen counter. I wrote to Pyrex about it, and they said that they did not make oven thermometers. I looked at the back of the thermometer and it is made by a knife company. Pyrex must only make the glass for the window. So now I am out my purchase price.

Well, if you test recipes you will need to have an accurate device to check the temperature of your oven. I was very impressed with how sturdy this Pyrex thermometer is. It is commercial quality and will sit anywhere or hang on the oven shelf. You can use it in conventional or convection oven. It has also been NSF Certified and Pyrex promises to replace it if it breaks under normal household use.

So far, so good....my oven and the thermometer are reading the same temperature. You just never know when you move and are working with a new oven, so it is always best to check. I highly recommend this item.

1.0 out of 5 stars Pretty but....., August 29, 2005

I tested this in two ovens, both set at 350 degrees. After taking forever (15-20 minutes) to reach its maxium reading, the thermometer read 275-285 degrees. I hope Amazon reads these reviews, because this item shouldn't be sold. (I would send it back but I want to use it as part of a windchime.)

1.0 out of 5 stars Very inaccurate, December 5, 2005

This is the worst oven thermometer I've ever used. The clip is flimsy, so the thermometer falls off if you move the shelf, and the base is flimsy, so it's difficult to stand up. It is also wildly inaccurate. Sometimes, it's off by as much as 75 - 100 degrees.

A waste of money.

1.0 out of 5 stars I have to agree try another model, January 11, 2006

I have an older oven and the temperature fluctuates in it. I currently have 2 different themometers in the oven just to verify that Im cooking at close to the right temp.

I used this thermometer for about 3 months, then I opened the stove one day to find that the needle was stuck on 325 degrees. I tried to get it to unstick by shaking it and putting into the refrig to no avail

This Pyrex thermometer was never accurate. It was always off 20 to 50 degrees. It finally broke 6.5 months after I purchased it. And I didn't use my oven every night. I relied alot on my crock pot and pressure cooker.

I received this item in the fall of last year, and upon returning to my apartment this January, I discovered it was non-functional after less than 3 months of use. However, the cheap oven thermometer that I bought at Kroger 5 months ago is still going strong.
