4.0 out of 5 stars Changing the time display
For those of you who lost your instructions to change the time on your Pyrex Timer. I found the solution quite by accident (after my wife and 14 year old couldn't figure it out). Place in CLOCK mode, hold down ENTER button for 5 seconds, display begins flashing. Press HR, MIN and/or SEC to change to appropriate time, press ENTER button to end change mode.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good but very fragile
Great timer. I liked it while it lasted but one drop to a vinyl floor and it was D-E-A-D.

Way too delicate for the average kitchen,

4.0 out of 5 stars Great but..., March 9, 2001

For aging folks like me, or for younger but farsighted folks: this thing is SMALL. Get out the granny glasses & be careful about the twitchy old fingers, lolol. ... Just as with wireless phones & many many other gadgets, I do wish manufacturers would consider us aging baby-boomers -- quite a significant percent of the population, y'know! -- and offer at least a few larger models of everything, not JUST the continually smaller to impossibly teensy versions. ... In spite of all that, I'm ordering another one of these very handy timers. Had one but accidentally broke it. Wouldn't recommend (nor would the manufacturer recommend, I'm sure) dropping this gadget on a concrete floor then stepping on it... but as I said, it really IS a bit too small.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect Time, July 30, 2000

Okay, so sure most ovens have a timer on them. But that doesn't help when you are trying to time all the other aspects of your dinner, how long to boil the pasta, when the soup will finish simmering, etc. I have had several timers in the past couple of years that have seemed to either break easily, or just won't get the job done. This timer is perfect, it lets you monitor times of four different things all at once, and has unique beeps for each one. The fact that you can either lay it flat, stand it up or stick it to the fridge was a great benefit, maybe my timers won't get knocked of the counter so easily now. At first getting used to the beeps when I had a few things cooking was difficult, but now it's a cinch, and I feel like I am burning a lot less each day. I know my family appreciates that.

5.0 out of 5 stars Busy person's timer, December 22, 2000

I have been searching the net to find this exact timer, because my original timer exactly like this one, but by a different company is malfunctioning. I love this timer because of it multi-function timing capabilities. I first ordered this timer from a Betty Crocker catalog and now it not available there any more. I need the use of a multi-functioning timer because I've set one or more functions to remind me to begin and/or stop different task, or to remind me to do something in timely increments. Sometimes, I clip it to my clothing and I am able to move about different part of the house or even outside and when a timer goes off I tend to whatever's next. I've even used it as an alarm clock and set it to wake me in 3 hours,3 hours and 10 minutes and 3 hours and 15 minutes to create my own snooze alarm. Its small and light weight which makes it easy to transport. I'm really estactic this timer is still available and I will be looking forward to my notification by email on its order availability. If I could rate this timer more than 5 stars I would, it is worth it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Timer on the market, December 6, 2006
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)

I have this timer, the CDN big display timer (TM23-S), and the AMCO double digit timer. I've had the Pyrex for about 2 years now, the AMCO for one year, and the CDN for less than a month.

This Pryex is by far my favorite, it still ticks after many many uses (and a few drops on the floor), is very intuitive for timing counting up or counting down, is the perfect size, looks fine, also states how much over the time you have gone.

AMCO is a pain in that it doesn't count up. The CDN is poorly laid out for setting the clock etc. but at least has direct input for the numbers ... this is not a big advantage for me. The CDN and AMCO are too bulky.

I would gladly trade the AMCO plus the CDN for one Pryex.

This timer is an indispensible tool for everyone who's got more than one thing in the oven, more than one child, more than one student, or a combination of more than one of the above. It's small, nicely portable and handy. I've dropped it a few times, and after reinserting the battery it has worked just fine. It is also a procrastinator's friend: I use it when I need to limit my time on a project - or online Sudoku.

4.0 out of 5 stars I love this timer!, May 12, 2004

I have used this particular timer in my laboratory for 5 years (as do nearly half of my coworkers). I worked in a particularly noisy part of the lab, and always heard it. I must have dropped it half a dozen times before it broke. I love it's multiple time settings, and the option to count up or count down. It can be used for more than just kitchen timing too; I've used it for overnight incubations (or baking a turkey, or making sure you get to the doctor's office on time). It also has a clip on it, so you can clip it to your pocket or belt and bring it with you. I was thrilled to see that it was available for the general public! I'm definately getting one for personal use.

The downside is mainly its durability. If it drops the right way, it's out. I've been through three of these in my five years. The first one lasted 2 years then I dropped it twice in the same week and it stopped working. The next only lasted six months, but it was dropped many times (be careful of the clip- I often bumped it into tables when it was on my hip). And the third one has lasted 2.5 years so far.

Overall, great product. You just need to be mindful of it's placement, and don't drop it!

2.0 out of 5 stars How much weight should be put into reviews???????????, June 17, 2001

anyway.. I bought this timer based on the reviews. People said it was worth the money and plenty loud. To me if something breaks in 4 months its worth 4 dollars, not 20! No, it is not loud at all. Not if you have other things going on in the house. It may suffice if ou are in total silence sitting somewhere close by waiting for a timer to go off! Based on my experience I say its a low quality item, so possible they are coming out of the factory with varying performance. And now it makes no sound at all because its dead already.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best kitchen timer you can get, August 29, 2006
By
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Pyrex Programmable Timer (Kitchen)
I have bought this timer numerous times, and, after a few years, after it falls into a pot of soup or something, I go buy another. Reasons: a) the programmable timer which allows you to time several dishes simultaneously. b) Sturdiness. Its magnet does not stay glued to the back forever, but otherwise it's durable for an everyday electronic gadget - you should get several years of use out of it. c) It's one of the only timers I can find - and I look at big box stores, major discount stores, the supermarket, etc. - that allow you to time dishes longer than an hour or 99 minutes. This is important for pot roast, big chickens, turkeys, unusual dishes that simmer overnight, and so on.

I recently bought it at Amazon because the big box store where I used to get it, now only carries from Pyrex a much more complex version which you don't need for everyday cooking.
