5.0 out of 5 stars Lovely Little Bowls For Great Price
*****
I bought two sets of four bowls to complement my nice set of everyday dishes for times when you want just a little bit of something---like a little yogurt, or some granola, some fresh raspberries---and we use them all the time. I agree with a previous reviewer that they would be wonderful for food prep.

They are not thin, as a previous reviewer...

1.0 out of 5 stars NOT HIGH TEMP SAFE
These cups are for serving or prep, they are not oven or microwave safe glass. They are not listed for baking on the Pyrex site; the price is strangely high considering the same cups sell for $6.99 there.

They are not thin, as a previous reviewer has noted. They are not thick or bulky either, though, just perfect. They seem like they will last a long time and wear quite well. They almost look, well...elegant, which seems kind of cool for just Pyrex and for the price.

The bowls come well-packaged, and although the price is very low, they definitely don't seem cheaply made. I haven't seen them in stores, either. Great buy!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for food prep and so many other things, January 6, 2006

I got these initially since they were cheap and I thought I might use them occasionally while prepping ingredients. I find that I use them all the time! They are so handy, I do use them for food prep (chopped spices, diced veggies, etc.), but I also use them for ice cream toppings when serving friends, little sorbet serving bowls, sauces, etc. They are definitely handier than I expected them to be.

These small cups come in handy for making custard, warming baby food and for individual servings of snacks, and food items, etc. Delivery was prompt. They don't seem to be available in the department stores or discount stores anymore so was delighted to find them on line. Lynn Martin in Va.

Mise en place is the French term for having all your ingredients prepped and ready to go before starting you start cooking. This technique is so important for proper cooking and these dishes really help you break that old habit of cooking and prepping at the same time. I use them to pre-measure all my spices, juices, liquids, etc. so that I don't have to be rushing around the kitchen as things are burning wishing that I had everything ready.

Of course, if you just want them to make serve pudding, they're the perfect size for that too!

5.0 out of 5 stars Not your mother's custard cups, December 12, 2006

for those of you who have used these forever, even tho they are the same size, even tho they have the same little rings around them, even tho they have the same subtle fluting at the top, they've CHANGED these cups. They are now of thicker glass, and the body is a little wider. Why? I have no idea. They're still great, and I love the ones I got, but be aware, if it looks in the picture like the rim is thicker than you remember, that's because it is.

If you're a fanatic about everything matching, you're going to have to hit thrift-stores. I _think_ I like the new version better. Use them every day over and over. Wonderful little bowls.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is my second set of Pyrex Custard Cups ..., August 28, 2006

... and I don't even make Custard! *LOL* I just love these for small servings of ice cream, fruit, side dishes, etc. They are great with meals for anything that you don't want to mix with the other foods on your plate. They are perfect for snacks and desserts. They are great for things such as pickles, olives, chopped onions, relish, dips, etc. on a casual buffet or picnic table. They also work well for pre-portioning ingredients when making a complicated recipe or allowing younger kids to cook with you. The typical Pyrex glass which is thick and a bit heavy is perfect for my family because it holds up to less than gentle everyday use. I still want my children to learn to be careful with china and glassware, but I see no reason to be too 'precious' about everday dishware.

5.0 out of 5 stars Myriad of uses, January 24, 2007

These little custard cups are fantastic kitchen helpers. They're just big enough to hold spices for cooking, flour for making a rue, butter for melting in the microwave, etc. I also use them to store small leftover amounts of sauces or salad dressing in the fridge. Although they don't come with lids, plastic wrap adheres very well to glass and the wrap is even strong enough that you can stack these cups on top of eachother without tearing the seal. Defintitely buy at least two sets of these custard cups. I always find myself needing more of them!

4.0 out of 5 stars $24.99?, March 31, 2007
This review is from: Pyrex Bakeware 6-Ounce Clear Custard Cups, Set of 4 (Kitchen)
I saw this at my local grocer for $4.99. I am baffled as to why Amazon is selling them for $24.99.

As for the product itself, they are great little bowls. Everything you expect from Pyrex. Just don't buy them for 5x their normal cost.

edited 4/22: I see the price has dropped considerably. I emailed Amazon about the price of this item, as I thought it was an error, but of course received the typical canned response. I am glad to see they have adjusted the price.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another great Pyrex, March 30, 2007
This review is from: Pyrex Bakeware 6-Ounce Clear Custard Cups, Set of 4 (Kitchen)
This is exactly what I was looking for: small prep bowls made of Pyrex. My dishwasher doesn't always get all the dishes spotless, but it's usually the Pyrex and Corelle dishes that come out the cleanest. Since I could be making sauces and have oily ingredients in those bowls, easy cleanup is key.
I was also hoping that these could be my extra, alternate ramekins, but they're much smaller than the ones I have, so I'm not sure it would work for that purpose. Nevertheless, I highly recommend these!

I just bought my own set of these after using them in my Mom's kitchen for years; they're very handy for all sorts of little things in the kitchen, and for serving small things (dips, ice cream, whatever). My Mom's had her's for 30 years, I think, and they still work great (a little scratched up, but what do you expect?). Not one of those things everyone dreams of equipping their kitchen with, but still very useful.
