Pyrex Portables Serving Bowl with Insulated Carrier, Clear with Blue Carrier

I ordered this bowl because an accident in my kitchen rendered my original bowl broken on a tile floor. I have used this product so many times over the years that I just had to have a replacement. It is so very handy for potluck dinners and taking meals to loved ones. My only wish is that replacement bowls were available without having to repurchase the carrier. I still have my original carrier with no bowl, but I use it to transport pies, etc. with the cool gel pack.

The large glass bowl is much prettier than in the picture. It makes an elegant serving dish. It has a gentle groove pattern all around the outside that is still easy to clean. The bowl is a good size for a salad for about 12 persons.

I have a set similar to this set, but not exactly the same. I received it as a gift. The differences are: (1) my set has the rusty-orange color carrier case instead of the blue carrier case. (2) the plastic lid has a different color, again rusty orange instead of this pretty blue color. (3) my set had a higher price because it has 3 additional pieces: a very small bowl and matching plastic lid (which could be used for dips or condiments), and an odd-looking plastic piece that fits into the large bowl to divide it into quadrants. We have never used the plastic divider piece. This set, in blue, may be a fine choice if you don't need those other pieces and want to save a little money.

The insulated case, along with the cold ice-substitute pack, is adequate for car trips of at least 2 hours, maybe more. I have had a little difficulty with the zipper on my case, but I am still pleased with the set.

The glass bowl is large and is heavy, especially when filled with food. I have a bad back, so I don't want to carry the container far. Fortunately, my husband is willing to carry it. This set, although beautiful, may not be the best choice if you prefer a lightweight, easy to carry container.

I've owned several Pyrex Portables, but the round serving bowl is my favorite. I like the hotpacks very much because they keep their warmth for at least a couple of hours. Be warned that when you microwave the hotpack, do not overdo it, you can and will BURN YOURSELF if you are not careful. The lid fits snugly and does not warp after repeated use like some other cheapo plastic lids do. I've had to throw away so many other lids that have deformed in the dry cycle of the dishwasher. Perfect size for parties. Last time I saw mine it was full of pasta salad at a large picnic gathering. Someone must have liked it more than me, because they now own it and I don't. So be warned, they have a tendency to disappear if not watched. I can't wait for them to come back in stock so I can replace mine.

I simply love this Pyrex Portable Bowl and Carrier it is so wonderful to have some type of carrier to carry salads to Potluck and let me tell you I doplenty of them. I used it this last 4th of July for a VFW potluck and everyone wanted to know where they could buy one and I told them on the Internet. I have never seen this in a store. It is the best product to have in your kitchen. I also have the 9x13 and that is great as well.
