5.0 out of 5 stars more than satisfactory replacement
This is a great bowl. It was a replacement for my 52 year old yellow pyrex large mixing bowl that fell out of a drainer and broke on the countertop. I ordered the clear glass 4 quart bowl to replace it and have found the new one to be more than satisfactory. I like the clear glass better than the old opaque glass that was yellow on the outside and white on the inside...

This isn't your mother's Pyrex. Over the years the Pyrex name has been sold and the glass formulation has changed. I like the fact that it's still made in the U.S.A. The bowl is lower and flatter than I would prefer. Others may prefer the shape. The integral exterior rim improves lifting, especially when hot. The price was reasonable. I ordered the clear glass 4 quart bowl to replace it and have found the new one to be more than satisfactory. I like the clear glass better than the old opaque glass that was yellow on the outside and white on the inside. The size is just right. And best of all, I did not have to go shopping to replace the broken bowl. Thank you Amazon.com!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars I like it, but I dont love it..., January 6, 2007

I love the bowl's sturdiness and size, however it's too shallow to do alot of mixing in, which is what I bought it for. Serves it's purpose, but could serve it alot better.

I mix, and microwave cook using a Corelle glass plate as a cover. What is missing is the plastic snap lid for storage.

Wow. I see a lot of folks are writing that they bought this bowl as a replacement for an older bowl they had lost or broken. Well, let me jump on that bandwagon, too. I broke my 30 year old Pyrex hand-me-down-from-my-grandmother bowl recently and was absolutely distraught over it. It was irreplaceable!! Or so I thought. I ordered this bowl just as a temporary fix until I could find one exactly like the one I'd broken (impossible since it was very 70's in its design with groovy flowers on the side). I have to admit tho, that when this bowl arrived, I immediately put it to work and tested it out by making peanut brittle in the microwave... this involves cooking sugar, karo syrup and raw peanuts in the bowl for approximately 8 minutes. This would be the challenge! And you know what? It totally surpassed my old groovy Pyrex bowl!! My OLD one got so hot it was a hazard to try and hold the sides and pour this candy onto the wax paper. I was always burning myself. But this new one... oh man, this NEW bowl is PHENOMENAL!! It doesn't get overly hot. It was totally manageable to hold. It cools down fast after being in the microwave. I love how much it holds, too. It's just perfect in every way. I cannot rave enough about this bowl. I'm sorry I broke the old one for nostalgic reasons, but this new bowl is leaps and bounds about it in every way. Highly recommmend this item!

As others have noted, this is a great bowl for mixing large batches and for marinating if you don't have a square glass pan. The shallowness comes in handy for microwaving. Also this is perfect for large doses of potato salad and scalloped potatoes for holidays. If you need the same size but taller, get the Anchor brand, but note that Anchor does not put lips on their bowls and the lack of a lip makes their 4-qt. bowl difficult to handle.

If you love to bake and cook, then you need this bowl in your kitchen. This bowl is ideal for large batches of cookies and for an ice bath after blanching vegetables. It is a little shallow, but just don't overfill it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great bowl - vastly overpriced., April 1, 2011
This review is from: Pyrex Prepware 4-Quart Rimmed Mixing Bowl, Clear (Kitchen)
I was planning to buy this from ^A^ - I purchase stuff from ^A^ almost every week, but this time I held off. Later, while shopping for groceries at my local supermarket, I noticed they had these exact same 4qt Pyrex bowls at a regular price of six dollars - but had them on sale for five. ^A^ used to sell these at the six dollar price, but has been steadily raising the price until now it's fourteen dollars. Outrageous. Good bowl. Bad price. Please shop around. The best deal isn't always online.

We already have the Pyrex three "nesting" set of mixing bowls and wanted to add a larger bowl. The three smaller ones nest inside this one so you can store all four bowls nested together.
The quality is such that we usually use it as a serving bowl for the garden or potato salad we mixed in it.
It is "Made in USA".

I love this pyrex bowl. It is sturdy and holds a double batch of my mom's famous chocolate chip cookies.
