This review is from: Pyrex Storage 11-Cup Rectangular Dish with Dark Blue Plastic Cover, Clear (Kitchen)
Approximate capacity: 11 cups or 2.75 quarts or 2,6 Liters.

The container's side walls are sloped outward at a slight angle. Thus the length and width at the bottom are smaller than the length and width around the top edge. At the very bottom, the edges are rounded.

Approximate Measurements of INTERIOR, without lid: The inside height is about 2 3/4 (2.75) inches. The inside length and width, as measured near the bottom, about 1/4" above the bottom: 8 1/4" x 6 1/4". The inside length and width near the top is 9 3/16" x 7 1/4". Exterior measurements with the plastic lid on: height is 3"; and length and width are 9 7/8" x almost 8" wide, measured at the lid.

We were pleased to find that this container can be used for some types of COOKING, not just for storage. We like the convenience of a container that can be used for baking or microwaving, and then covered and used to store any leftovers, without the bother of scooping into a different container.

The paper label (found inside this Pyrex glass container) indicates it is oven safe (in a regular oven, preheated), and microwave safe, freezer safe, and dishwasher safe. However, like most Pyrex, it is NOT broiler safe, and should not be used on stove-top burners. There is also a warning against use in a toaster oven.

Note: This container does not have handles on the sides, so it can be tricky to grasp with potholders when removing from a microwave or regular oven. On the other hand, the lack of handles allows it to use space efficiently in the refrigerator or cupboard.

The plastic lid should not be used in a regular oven, of course. I assume we should unseal and loosen the lid, before we put it in the microwave. It is BPA free, according to the fine print on the paper label.

The plastic lid goes on easily, and fits OK, but not perfectly tight. I think if I turned the container upside down, the contents would leak around the edges of the lid. We put the lid in the dishwasher, only on the top rack. When we looked at reviews for some of the other Pyrex storage containers, a few reviewers recommended hand washing the lid; they thought the plastic lids might keep their shape better if hand washed.

We have had this a year or two. No durability issues thus far (while following all the warnings from the label). I will add a "comment" to this review, if this product has problems later on.

We have owned other types of Pyrex glassware for more years. These containers seem just slightly thinner than the Pyrex "Storage Deluxe" containers which are extra thick. Those Pyrex "Storage Deluxe" glass containers (with the white, oval vent tabs on the lids) have endured years of frequent use with no chips. However, we eventually had to replace some of those vented plastic lids. We were able to buy replacement lids from the manufacturer's shop world kitchen web site and/or phone number; they also have replacement lids for this non-vented type of storage container. Pyrex outlet stores often have replacement lids.

On the back of the paper label/insert, there are lots of warnings, in 3 languages (English, Spanish, French), but all in very small print. I think many people will have difficulty reading the tiny print.

The back of the label says: "Failure to follow these instructions can cause immediate or later breakage ..." I will mention some of the warnings and limitations here, so shoppers will know whether the limitations fit with how they plan to use the container: "AVOID SEVERE HOT TO COLD TEMPERATURE CHANGES." "DO NOT add liquid to hot dish..." Hmmm, sounds like basting is out. The label advises: "Add a small amount of liquid to the dish prior to baking foods that release liquids while baking."

DO NOT "place hot dish ... in a sink, immerse in water or place on cold or wet surfaces." ... "Allow glass to cool before soaking."

More warnings: When using the container in the microwave, do not use a microwave "BROWNER", and "DO NOT use PYREX glassware items ... to hold or support popcorn bags, microwave convenience foods with special browning wrappers, etc."

For use in a regular oven, the label implies that we should PREHEAT the oven BEFORE putting a Pyrex glass container in the oven. I have heard that some ovens use extra high heat during the preheat step -- higher than any regular baking temperature; but I don't know if that is true. I'm guessing that the exposure to extra high heat during preheating, could cause damage for Pyrex glass containers and dishes.

I see that Pyrex recently came out with very similar rectangular containers with a different lid style, labeled "No Leak" -- those lids each have a vent tab which can be opened or closed. We have not yet tried that version. I don't know whether it is even available in a large, 11 cup size. If I were buying this again, I would consider that version. Here is a link to the smaller 6-cup size with the new-type vented lid: Pyrex No Leak Lids 6 Cup Rectangle Baking Dish with Plastic Lid

I love these containers. I like to cook batches of food couple times a week to accomodate my busy schedule. They are large enough to store good amount of food and they are so easy to clean. I also freeze some food away in these too and they are easy to thaw or microwave. They are super easy to take care of with no worries of chemicals from plastic containers. I bought several of these and use them every day.

I have recently decided that glass is the way to go to microwave, and bake! This is a perfect size for two large portions or four medium portions. This allows me to make and save two portions for my husband and I, and more for later. Clean up is always a breeze. Even the most baked on crust, let to soak five minutes in hot sudsy water and it comes clean as a whistle. My husband who hates to clean this type of item, even says it's a breeze. Now that's high praise!

These are the best replacements for tupperware....you can heat them, put them in the dishwasher and stack them neatly. We've replaced all of our awful plastic ones with this- much better for the environment and our health!

I purchased two of the 11 cup rectangular Dish with Dark Blue plastic cover. Recieved them in just a few days.
I was surprises at the size. They look small. Was not sure about them but they do hold 11 cups. I am very pleased with them. Would like to have some that hold 15 to 20 cups but have not found any.

4.0 out of 5 stars great for freezer cooking, February 18, 2010

This review is from: Pyrex Storage 11-Cup Rectangular Dish with Dark Blue Plastic Cover, Clear (Kitchen)
bought 4 of these dishes for freezer cooking, when I make a dinner I divided it and freeze half for later. This dish is nice because I dont have to use foil or plastic disposable pans. The directions specify to avoid sudden tempature changes, and to preheat the oven and not to use under the broiler. Havent had any issues with these dishes.

I love Pyrex it is all I have in my kitchen and would not use anything else. This is a wonderful size if you're cooking a big spaghetti or stew, and have a lot left over to store.

These glass storage containers are great for anyone wanting to get away from storing your food in plastic. The only plastic part is the lid which seals tight after each use, but doesn't come in contact with food.
