Book Description

December 1, 2000
Margaret Lumley Brown was an influential figure in Dion Fortune's Society of the Inner Light, and she took over many of Fortune's functions after the latter's death in 1946. She raised the arts of seership to an entirely new level and, with some justification, has been called the finest medium and psychic of the 20th century. Although she generally sought anonymity during her lifetime, her work provided much of the raw material for several of Gareth Knight's own books, most notably, The Secret Tradition in Arthurian Legend and A Practical Guide to Qabalistic Symbolism.

Here, gathered together by Gareth Knight for the first time in print, is a four-part record of the life and work of Margaret Lumley Brown. Part One presents the main biographical details of this fascinating figure, including the frightening way in which her natural psychism developed as a consequence of living in a haunted house. Part Two consists of articles written by her on such subjects as Dreams, Elementals, the Faery Kingdom, Healing and Atlantis. Part Three provides examples of her mediumship with trance addresses on topics as diverse as Elemental Contacts, Angels and Archangels, Greek and Egyptian gods, and the Holy Grail. Part Four is devoted to the occult side of poetry, with some examples of her own work.

5.0 out of 5 stars Deserves More than 5 Stars!, February 6, 2001

This review is from: Pythoness : The Life and Work of Margaret Lumley Brown (Paperback)
This book is a necessary requirement for anyone who has read Dion Fortune's work, or that has an interest in the Western Esoteric Tradition! Margaret Lumley Brown (also known as Irene Hay) has to be one of the most fascinating figures in occult history. I found the amount of information staggering and still go back to re-read parts of the book. I imagine I will continue to refer to it for many years to come. Among the most interesting subjects is the information contained on the elements and elementals, the angels and archangels, the Atlantean Tradition, the Egyptian Tradition, the ancient Magi, and many other aspects of the Western Tradition that have shaped what it has become today. The book also contains beautiful poetry that touches such subjects as the Solar Logos; Ishtar and Babylonian contacts; and, the Lilith/Eve connection. This biography sheds light on a woman that was a moving force behind some of the best esoteric work ever brought through, leaving a wealth of information upon which to build. This is a truly amazing book about a truly amazing woman!

This is a fascinating read and one of a series of books that Knight has written recently revealing the inner workings of the Inner Light. A valuable contribution to the field of occult history.
