4.0 out of 5 stars Great rap for any language accompanied by amazing beats, December 5, 2000

This review is from: O.Q.P (Audio CD)
This CD, despite being the most popular album in France, is one of the best underground finds of 2000. Everyone who has heard it for the first time has immediately loved it. Menelik's rhymes are unique to European rap because they don't go along with the norm of being "old skool." What's most impressive about his album is it's well-produced beats, which provide a perfect medium for one of the most surprising hip-hop artists of the year to flow on. This is a must for french rap enthusiasts and also a great buy for those of you who were pleasantly surprised the first time that you heard MC Solaar. O.Q.P. is proof that Europe is finally catching on to the styles of American hip-hop, and possibly providing their own interesting and entertaining twist. Menelik's style of rap is like none other and the album is truly a quality purchase since this is truly one of those rare occasion where almost all of the songs are excellent and would prove to be American hits if translated.

5.0 out of 5 stars OQP, April 30, 2003

This review is from: O.Q.P (Audio CD)
This album is simply great. It is completely unlike American rap. It's more profound, it's more well-thought out, and is just better. Menelik's music is a lot like that of MC Solaar, probably because they became friends in college - Menelik holds a college degree in law. He raps about "real" issues...when I listened to "je t'aime comme t'es," I was shocked that a rapper would rap about something like that, given the American stereotypes. Other great french rappers are NTM (aka Supreme NTM) - NTM stands for Nique Ta Mere, IAM, and Saian Supa Crew. If you're looking for real rap that means something, that's what you should be listening to.
