4.0 out of 5 stars Overall a really good picture, lens, night vision, and mounting system
I bought 2 cameras from q-see - their $150 "100 foot" night vision camera and their $230 "65 foot" night vision high resolution camera (this one).

Both cameras come with everything to get your camera connected to a vcr or digital recorder which is a pleasant surprise. The big difference is this unit uses a Sony 1/3" CCD and their other one is using some...

This review is from: Q-See QSB520SR Weatherproof Color High-Resolution Day/Night Camera Kit (560TVL) 65-Feet Night Vision (Electronics)
I bought 2 cameras from q-see - their $150 "100 foot" night vision camera and their $230 "65 foot" night vision high resolution camera (this one).

Both cameras come with everything to get your camera connected to a vcr or digital recorder which is a pleasant surprise. The big difference is this unit uses a Sony 1/3" CCD and their other one is using some smaller, no name CCD chip with alot of noise at night and a washed out picture during the day. Putting their images side by side you clearly see the difference.

As for the night performance, the 65 foot unit outperforms the 100 foot unit. Night images ARE color on both cameras (some switch to black/white or green/white)

The mounting bracket on this unit is a little more secure (both in rigidness and security to keep your camera). It also has 2 weatherproof rings (they are barely visable in the photo underneath the tube) used to adjust the zoom and focus on the lens, something their cheaper cameras don't have. This can make a big difference in getting your desired area of protection in frame and also making your DVR's motion detection work properly.

I would buy this model again, simply because the image is so good both day and night. The zoom's range is not tremendous like some of the 20-30X zooms, but it is better than a fixed focal length camera. The mount is also very flexible and can be hung from above or below and is much better machined.

This same camera/lens is also made using higher power IR LED's at a 100+ foot distance specification and sold for a higher price in the same case. Unfortunately the detail you can capture at 100 feet isn't significant so the high end model is probably not ideally designed - it needs a more powerful zoom lens to be useful.

To sum it up - this will give you a great image from 5-65 feet day or night, with day images out to 300 feet usable with great color. It's the middle of the road in Q-see's day/night product line and a good match of quality components.

4.0 out of 5 stars great camera, February 5, 2009
This review is from: Q-See QSB520SR Weatherproof Color High-Resolution Day/Night Camera Kit (560TVL) 65-Feet Night Vision (Electronics)
This camera has fantastic night vision. You can make out body motions of people walking down the sidewalk across the street in the middle of the night. Is large, so not very easy to conceal, but works great. Has an even better picture in daytime. You can read license plates then. Love this camera.

I puchased two of these cameras and one of these VideoSecu Color Security Vandal Proof Dome camera 1/3" Sony CCD 420 TVL 3.6 mm lens with free surveillance warning sticker VD60 1O3 and the $50 dome camera has a much, much sharper picture and I mean by a lot! If I had bought only one of these Q-See cameras I would have thought I had a defective one or something. The daytime picture is passable but the nighttime video is worthless. Of course nighttime shots are not as well defined as daytime shots but the little cheap dome camera's picture kept on looking great when it got dark while the Q-See cameras looked like they were slowly getting submerged under water as it got darker and darker outside. I am normally a very positive person but I am very disappointed that I bought two of these cameras for over $450 while my little afterthought $50 dome camera I bought at the last minute smokes both of them. The only positive I can come up with is that the build quality is nice and the mounting bracket is excellent. I'm exchanging both of them for two more of the dome cameras.

1.0 out of 5 stars Run Away from this company, October 25, 2010
This review is from: Q-See QSB520SR Weatherproof Color High-Resolution Day/Night Camera Kit (560TVL) 65-Feet Night Vision (Electronics)
I bought a dvr from them and found only some of the functions worked. Let me say I am a tech and have a good idea how to set the equipment up. The problem is the box says it will do 5 things like e-mail notice when an alarm is made. Well that function is not useable. And there is no tech support at all. Don't waist your time even calling.

Camera is sturdy and mounted nicely. Image is especially nice with daylight. Night vision is new to me and looks weird but the IR led's really light up quite a distance. This one camera pretty much covers my entire backyard 50' wide & 65' deep. I am using it to catch a thief who keeps getting into my garage. Meanwhile, I am recording a lot of strange insects and orbs of some type. The only cons I can think of would be the price but I think the image quality will be worth it (if it catches the thief).

2.0 out of 5 stars Good Camera - Poor Customer Service, July 10, 2008
This review is from: Q-See QSB520SR Weatherproof Color High-Resolution Day/Night Camera Kit (560TVL) 65-Feet Night Vision (Electronics)
This camera is pretty good, worth the price. Works great.

Had an issue I couldn't figure out... so I called Q-See tech support. Gave up after spending 1.5 hours on hold. Sent an e-mail... no response after 5 days still. Worthless customer service is the only reason this doesn't get 5 stars.
