Great scanner with the worst software and manuals I've ever seen,
By
This review is from: Q-See QX628 Fingerprint Time and Attendance System (Tools & Home Improvement)
To combat timecard fraud, I decided to invest in a fingerprint scanner and being familiar with Q-See's line of security cameras, I thought I might as well give their scanner a shot. Sorry for the long review but I thought it might be helpful for those who are seriously considering this unit:First off, the scanner is a bit smaller than I had expected (about 6" x 7"). It came with some accessory cables although you are required to supply your own ethernet cable. This device also comes packaged with 3 manuals (total over 200 pages of reading material). If you're someone who hates reading pages upon pages of instructions, then this device is definitely not for you. Page count aside, the worst thing about the documentation is that it's written in poor English and in an almost Yoda-esque manner (example: 'Select you need statistic record list, and establish record list you need after it has counted, to establish other record list Not need count again'). Not to be discouraged, I tried my best to interpret the manual and managed to create a test account. I was pleased to find that the scanner was able to accurately identify my fingerprint in a maximum of 2 tries (as an added bonus, the scanner talks!) Sadly, the bundled software is full of spelling and grammatical errors and for some odd reason, the menu options within the software do not match the manuals. I guess the manual writers didn't want to be bothered with making sure that the instructions matched the product. Network setup was fairly easy although if you don't have a lot of experience with setting up static IP's, note that there is NO setup wizard to help you. I didn't bother with the RS232 connection. One last gripe about the software: For some reason, the software is unable to distinguish 'clocking-in' vs 'clocking-out'. Even when the menu options are set to allow employees to clock out after a specified time, the software still reads all fingerprint scans as 'clock-in'. Interestingly, when you go to print the attendance report, all the clock-in/clock-out times are instead listed as 'clock-out'. It might be a bug or it might be due to user error but there's no way to tell with these manuals. This product gets one star for the decent scanner but it falls flat on just about everything else. I would definitely not purchase this unit for any business, large or small (though it makes for a nice expensive toy for the kids especially with its voice prompts).

AVOID THIS PRODUCT!,

The scanner takes your finger prints, but the manual and software are not useable. We have spent over 20 hours trying to figure this all out (and yes, we are IT literate) and we still can't get a suitable computer to unit link. I would NOT recommend this package until these problems are fixed.

For some time I've had trouble controlling personal attendance, cards and other means are very easy to trick, and most fingerprint systems are very expensive, this just hit the nail in the head its easy to install and set up, and not as expensive as the other options, the software that comes with it is very user friendly, as well as the menu on the gadget it self, I've been using it for a few weeks and love it, the interfacing is incredible, I can use a laptop to hook up, or just plug it into my network and access it from my computer, the box comes with everything you need, and it will work on a small office with as little as 2 or 3 employees to a big company with up to 1500 users, it's small, easy and cheap.

Great Hardware, Worst Manual & Software,

This review is from: Q-See QX628 Fingerprint Time and Attendance System (Tools & Home Improvement)
This would be a nice product, if it only had a good documentation, software and/or an easy way to get the EmployeeID and the time in a database independent format, so that at least you could analyze it yourself, and not be in a M$ blocked environment (MS Access and SQL Server). Don't waste your time with this, unless you only use Windows and don't need to check remote sites.

Should be zero stars,

Instructions written by someone who doesn't speak English... the device is almost impossible to use as a result. Additionally, the scanner is pretty crummy, usually requiring 4-5 scans to identify an employee. I'm sending it back and you will too.

DONT BUY IT SAVE YOUR MONEYI did not get the software. The manual is very hard to understand. Many items are not spelt right. Amazon should be careful of what they carry.

Buyer Beware!!,

This review is from: Q-See QX628 Fingerprint Time and Attendance System (Tools & Home Improvement)
The Q-See QSX628 is not worth the $250.00. You will waste more effort and time trying to get it setup and functioning. The instruction manuals and the software have been translated into English and lack significantly in any useful information. Yes, it connects to a network but will not synchronize to the software. After two weeks of fighting this battle, I have decided to purchase another product. Also, the technical support telephone number is for China. Bottomline: Steer clear of this product. Not user friendly and not worth the headaches.
