Q-SNAP CORP-Q-Snap frames are made from PVC tubing making them lighter and more durable than other materials. The clamp design for holding the fabric is gentle and simple to use. The ribbed inner surface of the Q-snap clamps hold the tension for your preferred adjustment. Simply turn the clamp outward to tighten or inward to loosen. Measures 17x17.

I recently bought three different sizes of these frames after a really enthusiastic recommendation from some great people in the Crafts Forum. They are fantastic. So easy to put together and to put your work in. Such a simple but clever idea. Lay your work over the assembled plastic frame tubing and then snap on the metal grips. Once on they can be rotated to tighten the peice of work. There's no wrinkling or stretching and its very lightweight but strong. Very highly recommended.

Ten Times Better than Hoops

I was introduced to Q Snaps by a co-worker eight years ago and I have never gone back to hoops. Q Snaps are user and AIDA cloth friendly, come in many different sizes and can be taken apart and used to construct a new frame in whatever size you need. Unlike most hoops, Q Snaps don't leave behind crimping marks on your cloth and you don't have to loosen or take the whole thing off to tighten your fabric.

No more hoop marks EVER!

Let's face it, hoop marks are a pain. Who wants to spend 100+ hours on a big needlework project only to have it marred by a circle of creased fabric and flattened stitches? Not this girl, and now I don't have to!

There are so many great things about this frame:

1.) Rounded cross section. The PVC pieces are 1" diameter and completely smooth and circular, there aren't any sharp edges to crease or distort your fabric. To adjust the tension in your fabric, just rotate the clip-on pieces inward (to loosen) or outward (to tighten).

2.) PVC pipe composition. The PVC pipe is lightweight and strong, so your hands won't get tired from holding a heavy hoop, and your fingers won't cramp like they do after hours of curling around a hoop.

3.) Square frame shape. If you work on square pieces, the shape of the Q-Snap frames allows you to position the frame right at the edge of your design, exposing maximal workspace for you to stitch so you don't have to move the frame nearly as often as you would with a hoop. To reach the corner of a square or rectangular piece with a hoop, you have to position the hoop way over to the side to reach the very outside of the corner.

4.) Modular design. I have uploaded a picture of pieces in the 11" frame at http://www.amazon.com/gp/customer-media/permalink/mo3PP84BBSJ0IIW/B00013MV30/ref=cm_ciu_images_pl_link. You can see that this particular frame comprises 4 corner pieces (7" on one side, 2" on the other), 4 connector pieces (2" long), and 4 C-shaped clamp pieces (8" long). The pieces are interchangeable with other Q-snap frame pieces, meaning that you can mix and match to create non-standard frame sizes and you can add in extender pieces (sold separately).Read more ›

I love my q-snaps! Unless I'm working on a tiny, tiny piece, I don't even use hoops anymore. While it's true they don't hold as tightly as hoops, the tension is easy to adjust. And since I like working on odd sized pieces, I'll combine the 11" frames with the 14" frames to get an 11"x14" frame. I've combined all of the different sizes and the one I use most is 11"x17" because a stitcher's eighth (a piece of fabric 13"x18") fits perfectly. These frames are so light weight. They are much lighter than a similar sized hoop or scroll frame. So pleased with this product!!

Excellent for hand-stitching

This is a winner. Nice large working area. Design places the plastic piece over your work, so your hands don't constantly touch the fabric. There are several sizes so make sure to look at them all. I use the 8x8 for most of my cross-stitch, but have an 11x11 for large pieces. Holds your fabric with less stress on existing work. Does loosen a bit with time, so I add a strip of paper towel under my fabric to keep it tight, and it's easy to just twist to tighten. I've had my first one for years, so they last well.

Be careful!

I have several PVC snap frames from years ago that are fantastic. Q-Snap is not. The connectors that are suppossed to keep the frame together do not fit tightly so the frame has "movement" and falls apart even just while trying to put the quilt over it. The snap on pieces are thin and flimsy and will not hold together a more substantial quilting project. I don't know if Q snap has lowered it's standards, or if there is another brand out there, but I would highly recommend to keep looking.

Buy several to mix and match

These are the best! I bought several sizes and am able to mix and match the pieces to custom fit any project I am working on. They are so light weight that I don't use my standing frame much anymore as it is easier to manipulate the piece I am working on just using these. But when needed, they go into my standing frame easily. The ease of tightening the piece is fantastic....just a twist. They are also easy on the sections that have already been stitched so can work with a smaller size concentrating on one section of your project at a time. FANTASTIC!!
