As a professional, I prefer this tool.,

As a professional tile installer I prefer this tool over any other stuff (plastic strips and prefabricated sloped sheets). First, when it comes to a plastic strips, it's not vise for me to buy extra materials and spend extra time for installation in every shower I do. Secondly, I'm in process of making a lot of a showers in condo renovation project and almost every vinyl shower pan has a wrinkles, subfloor has a "steps" and it's out of level big time. Plastic strips or presloped sheets could not be used here. Otherwise, I would have to build up every strip in order to make a right slope. With this tool I do mud 3-4 times faster, I'm ahead of a schedule, process is no longer painful and therefore i do more work per day and have a fun. Shower floor have a good drainage and looks nice. This video made in this condo. To be fair, those plastic strips would be good for one time projects, for home owners or DIYers. By the way, I think this tool is good for home owners and DIYers too. About price, if box of nails cost about $50 and electric cord around $80, I can handle $180 for this tool, especially, if I can use it for a long time ahead.

Good But A Bit Pricey,

I used this forming tool to build a mud deck for an oblong shower floor... Was easy to use and worked fairly well... Because of the weird shape of this shower floor there were quite a few areas of the floor I wasn't able to form with this tool... I had to come back with a straight edge to complete those areas... All in all a good tool, but looking back, I think it was a bit pricey for what it does... Really handy if you don't have a lot of experience forming, but if you do, you'd probably be better off saving the money and using a straight edge and a level...
