It was a nice microwave, but I was tired of setting off my smoke alarm when I was cooking!

I chose this hood because it looks a bit more upscale than what you typically find in a home improvement store, but it is still only 7" tall. Most of the stainless "commercial style" hoods are 9" or taller, which would have made my cooktop-to-hood distance and overall floor-to-hood height too short without extensive cabinet modification. The rated air flow for this hood is also better than many of those "commercial" hoods which is important if you want to mount the hood further from the cooktop.

As far as performance goes, on the low setting the fan is silent; medium setting is still very quiet (similar to the sound from our gas cooktop) but moves plenty of air; high and "boost" settings are very good. No vibration or rattling sounds. Overall, seems to move more air with less noise than the Jenn-Air downdraft it replaced.

Lighting was also a big factor in choosing this hood. It uses four 50 watt halogen bulbs with four dimming levels, so it works well from night light to seriously bright light to cook by. However, as you might imagine, four fifty watt halogen bulbs make quite a bit of heat on their own. I may try some dimmable LEDs if I can convince myself to spend $100 for four light bulbs.

Overall, I would recommend this product.

We installed this above a 36" 5-burner gas stove. When we have a couple burners on, and no fan, the fan automatically turns on to vent excess heat. When we have the fan on low, and there's too much heat, it turns itself on higher until it's cooled down, then it goes back to the original setting. Very nice.

The lights are very bright, and they put out quite a bit of heat all by themselves.

The fan, on high (or turbo) draws out all the heat/steam/smoke easily, and is NOT excessively noisy, like other hoods I've used.

The only thing I don't care for is that there are several features which are hard to figure out, and too many of the buttons are multi-purpose. I'd rather have a couple more buttons to control the extras. It's like having the front and rear windshield wiper controls in your car on the same stick as the turn signal and bright/dim headlight controls; way too many functions in one area.

The stainless is easy to clean; we just wipe a towel across the top every day or so, or after we're done cooking a big meal.

All in all, a very nice unit.

This range hood is cool. If you are cooking something and the stove top is really hot the hood turns the fan on automatically. The lights are great. 4 different levels and they ease on and off smoothly. They don't change abruptly. Fan is quiet except on the very highest speed. No rattles while running. Other timed features I don't want to figure out how to use!

Range hood is well put together and easy to install. However the fan is off center located to the left of the hood, this affects the efficiency of extraction if you are cooking on the right hand burners of your range. The remote control feature is great and works very well. Sound levels are not too bad with this running.
Overall pleased with the product.

The range hood met my expectations. The fan is quiet, the lights are bright. I am still getting use to touch buttons. So far I am satisfied.

It's a great product if you're not the one who has to install it. I fancy myself as a fairly adept do-it-your-selfer, but placing the four screws that hold the unit in place was a challenge for me. The screws have to be started under the cabinet and threaded several turns before lifting the unit into a position where the four screw heads protrude through four slotted holes; then the unit is slid back, into the slots, before tightening the screws. It really would have been nice if the unit had come with a cardboard template for positioning the screws. I had only my wife as a helper, and there was no way she could hold the 50 pound unit in place while I marked the holes. I finally resorted to using some boards and my car jack (with the stovetop as a platform) to jack the hood into position. Then I wedged four 1"X2" boards under the hood corners to hold it in place so I could remove the jack and boards in order to install the screws. Another thing that troubled me a little is the 7" diameter exhaust port on the hood. I expected it would be a crimped male fitting that would fit snuggly into the female end of 7" diameter ducting. But, no, it was just a straight-sided connection rising about 1" above the hood top. The 7" duct pipe fit very loosely on it. All I could do was use a lot of duct tape and hope for the best. A minor thing that bugs me a little is the digital clock. I could have done without it. It's so tiny in contrast to the size of the hood that it looks out of place and rather silly. As I said, once it was installed it performs superbly. If I walked into a new house with this unit already installed it would get 5 stars instead of 4.

This is such an improvement over my over-the-range microwave vent hood. It was a nice microwave, but I was tired of setting off my smoke alarm when I was cooking! I'm doing a lot better with a little counter microwave and this amazing range hood. I've been tracking the price and looking at hoods for over a year. This is the one I wanted. Thank you, Amazon, for the great price. It's all installed and I couldn't be happier. Yes, the halogen lights throw off some heat, but it hasn't been a problem. The light is so much better. The range is very quiet on low speed and no louder (but much more efficient) than my old vent on high. I noticed some other reviewers talking about the lights coming on at unexpected times. There is a feature called "ambient light sensor" that automatically turns on the lights when it sense low light conditions. Unfortunately, the default is set to "on". I just turned off that feature and control the lights manually. Changing feature settings can be clunky, but patience and carefully following the instructions gets it done.
