Too much of a hassle for using on the iPhone 5
on December 9, 2012
I purchased this SIM cutter because I have an iPhone 5 and my wife has a 4S, and we travel often and usually purchase prepaid SIM cards in the countries we visit (we have unlocked phones). I previously used to carry around two SIM cutters (Full to Micro, and Micro to Nano), in case the Mobile Service Provider I'd purchase the card from didn't have a Micro SIM.
Today I tried out the Nano SIM cutter in Brazil with a TIM Micro SIM. As I always do, I went to a local mall, took my iPhone, my SIM cutter and the pin to open the tray on my iPhone 5, and when I took the Micro SIM and tried to place it in the cutter, it wouldn't fit. It turns out Noozy makes the opening on the Nano SIM cutter thinner than the Micro SIM cutter, which I understand is because Nano SIMs are 20% thinner than Micro SIMs, however an iPhone 5 will work with a conventional SIM thickness, and only requires the actual length and width of a Nano SIM to work properly. This meant I had to come back to my hotel and have been sanding the card down for over 30 minutes (doing it very carefully, since after a while you begin to see the IC chip though the plastic on the SIM card), when with my cheaper SIM cutter I'd simply cut, pop the chip in my phone and go. Such a shame to have spent this money for this purpose and not knowing this was a major drawback, hope this helps others out in the future.
