Jack Kanholm's QS-9000 series was first published in 1995, and became an instantaneous success. The books have established themselves as the reference of choice for understanding, interpreting and implementing the QS-9000 standards. We estimate that 70 to 80 percent of companies certified to QS-9000 have used these books. This is for us an unprecedented market penetration. The QS-9000 books are based on Jack Kanholm's ISO 9000 series, now in its third edition and with over 70,000 copies sold. Based on the success of this and the ISO 9000 series, we also published Jack Kanholm's books on ISO 14000 environmental standards and the new ISO 13485 (EN 46000) quality standards for the medical device industry.
From the Author
Encouraged by the success of my ISO 9000 books, I started writing the QS-9000 series as soon as the standard was released in 1994. Like with ISO 9000, I really wrote these books as much for myself and my colleagues as for the quality managers that are on the receiving side of the audit. As a professional auditor I have to be perfectly clear and certain what the requirements of the standard are, and there is no better way to clear one's mind and consolidate the experience then writing a book. I put a lot of work into these books and hoped that they will be well received. But I was not prepared for the actual success that the series has achieved. It was partly because not many people were prepared to tackle such a technical and specialized subject and there weren't many other QS-9000 books on the market. However, to me, it was also a confirmation that the approach I developed for ISO 9000 was a winning formula. People implementing quality management standards in their companies need authoritative and technical texts that will enable them to fully understand where the bottom line is for each and every requirement of the standard; and they appreciate the directness, focus, clarity and simplicity of the writing.
