5.0 out of 5 stars Great Classic
I was bored a while back, so I decided to dust this game off (it was a lot of dust) and play it again.
I must say, even though the graphics were quite a bit dated, they never detracted from my enjoyment of the game. I've played quite a few FPS games, and many modern ones still cannot hold a candle to this game. It was good for its time, and is still good today...

I ordered this game under the assumption that it was the FULL version and not shareware!! I never would have ordered it otherwise, please be clearer to potential buyers as to whether this is Full or Shareware. Thanks!

It's simple, fast-paced, and every bit the game it was in '96.

Do note though, you'll need to make sure you understand how to run older games, as it does not natively run in Vista or XP (I could be wrong about XP). It's fairly easy to get it to work on them, but do some research first so you're not lost when you get the game.

Back on the 90s this game rocked! nothing came close to it and then the GL drivers came out WOW! I was amazed of the speed and graphics. Online multiplayer is simply the best, fun, funny and competitive. Quake 2 and 3 were very good also! Quake 4 to me was a waste money, only id software knew how do the quake sequels. Other fun multiplayer FPS games are Unreal and Soldier of Fortune 2. These are older games too so crank up the settings to the max and enjoy!

5.0 out of 5 stars great classic, August 20, 2009

Revolutionary for its time, Quake produces all of its visuals in three dimensions. Online multiplayer is still supported, and is great fun to suppliment the single player game. Getting it to run is easy, just download one of the many small clients created to support OpenGL and you can run this game on any version of windows. Easy to start and shut down too!

I love this game because I can play it while downloading or waiting for another game to do something.

This game was so much fun- it had multiplayer that really worked back in the day. meaning it was possible to lose to all the dorks who are compulsive players, as much as you want. The trick was to RJ in to some hidden dark place then snipe the 56k-newbies using a shotgun as I recall.. I like this pack it fits me nice!

No, this game is terrible and will bring about the downfall of society although the blood particles does look nicer with GL graphics as does the corpses bits of random meat and fireworks.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is Quake, a true classic!, December 27, 2011

I've followed PC game history since the beginning. If you have any interest in shooters and have never played this one, you need to collect it. It is very old and still very fun. I would personally label this particular game as the pivot point, elbow joint of the PC shooter game era. This game, once installed correctly and modified to free up the mouse looking finally gave us all our first look into actual 3D gaming. It's now over 15 years old so expect low end graphics and limited control customization but with that aside, this thing is "STILL" fun to break out and play every now and then. I play it pretty much once every year or so and play it through a few times and then park it again for a while until I get the itch again.

It is a true classic and if you are like me and are really into classics, collectibles and nostalgia then you need to snap up one of the remaining new copies of this classic game by ID software before they are all gone. Mine arrived new in it's original sealed package. A very nice addition to my classic game collection.

Go ahead, call me weird but I already know there are more like me out there. Collect this thing while you can.

This is the shareware version of Quake, not the full version. It only contains the first act. The fact that these sellers are selling a cd that you can download for free is absurd.

5.0 out of 5 stars Quake, May 16, 2009

This review is from: QUAKE (CD-ROM)
I got interested in Quake when I was around 25 years old. My apt. mate introduced me to the Doom series of games. I eventually bought Quake and liked it a lot. Quake is a Doom style game that allows you to jump, look up and down, swim in water and have a few more sci-fi weapons than Doom. In Quake you start out with an axe and a single-barrel shotgun. There are also a double-barrel shotgut, nail gun, super nail gun, grenade launcher, rocket launcher and thunderbolt. If you fire the thunderbolt in water you kill yourself as well as any monster. When I first played Quake it was not the full version. I eventually got the full version and had more fun, I eventually graduated to Quake II where I stopped playing the Quake series after Quake III, and Quake II's amazing add ons. I also played original Quake's first add-on but never got to play it's second add-on.
