5.0 out of 5 stars One of my favourites
Ty Merrick is one of my favourite science fiction characters, and Quantum Moon is one of my favourite science fiction books. The setting is excellently done, with an admirable blend of the familiar and the exotic. The heroine, Ty Merrick, is tough, admirable, and believable. Vitola shows a keen understanding of superstition and mythology. I highly recommend this novel.

1.0 out of 5 stars For people who don't know what good writing is
This is the perfect book for people who like mystery novels and books with werewolves in them.
Seriously. Buy it. You'll love the cliche dialogue and clunky sentences. Not to mention the overwhelming
unoriginality of the thing. Also good for people looking for examples on how-not-to-write.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great blend of Sci Fi & Mystery, April 5, 2000
This review is from: Quantum Moon (Paperback)
Ty Merrrick might not be a werewolf in the traditional sense, but she's one great cop...er district marshall. She and her partner have to navigate a near (and very believable) future where "Humanitarian Ideals" rule everyone's lives and most civilians structure their reality around invisible magics. The mystery is nicely paced as one interview leads to another until the climax. This will leave you wanting more.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great characters, April 8, 2003

Normally I'm not a big fan of police procedurals, so I'm not even sure why I picked it up at first. But darned if I didn't find myself really getting into the story! I realized that the reason I enjoyed this book so much was because of the characters.

Ty Merrick is great, with her condition that is both blessing and curse. Gibson keeps me guessing. Sometimes he seems cold and calculating, and at other times he truly seems to care for Merrick. He's a good foil for her. And even LaRue and Baba are fun to read.

I know Denise Vitola has written several other books in the series. I hope she continues.

5.0 out of 5 stars Who knew a dystopian one world humanitarian government series could be so good?, November 17, 2008
This review is from: QUANTUM MOON (Kindle Edition)
I fell in love with this series back in the late 1990s because of its interesting premise and read the entire series at least once a year. They are on my `keeper' shelf. I just bought the kindle editions of the two available so they can travel with me. I can't wait for the rest of the series to be `kindle-ized'.

Quantum Moon has two powerful strengths: the characters and the world building.

Within a few pages, I knew that I liked the characters. They were humans living in a harsh society. Ty Merrick, the main character is an interesting and complex woman, but she is not perfect. She is credible, likeable and down to earth. Denise Vitola has created a marvelous protagonist. In addition, the secondary characters are wonderful. They are well developed and add to the storyline.

The world building in this futuristic science fiction is incredible (and yet credible with the possibility it could happen). The dystopian future with its one-world humanitarian government is described in detail showing the day-to-day hardships the characters must face to survive.

I have only one thing to say - buy this book (and its sequels)! You will love them, and I'm sure they will stay on your `keeper' shelf as they have on mine.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Quantum Leap, August 23, 2008

The cover grabbed me and the writing held me. Surprisingly, I've never been a fan of werewolf novels, but I'm a Ty Merrick fan from here on out.

5.0 out of 5 stars Quantum?, August 7, 2008
This review is from: Quantum Moon (Paperback)
A werewolf. A miserable future. A drug. A detective. World dictatorship. Put it all together and you have the makings for a fantastic story -- add a female aspect and wow! Ty Merrick, female detective who just happens to be a werewolf stalks the dark streets of a future world where only the richest of the rich live in any sense of normality. The remaining masses exist in a run-down world filled with darkness and mystique. Add in the drug 'quantum' and you have a sci-fi mystery at its best. A page-turner to the end.

5.0 out of 5 stars A MUST READ!, July 15, 2008
This review is from: Quantum Moon (Paperback)
Denise Vitola has created an amazing world with this novel, rich with mysticism, corruption, police procedurals and the fantastic. Her Ty Merrick character is one of my absolute favorites and Denise has developed her beautifully. Ty is an incredibly complex character who must deal with her own personal demons while also fighting crime in a world run by superstition and greed. A must read for anyone who loves sci-fi with a unique take on the category.
