About the Author

Diana Untermeyer worked in the White House during the George H. W. Bush administration and at the Christ Church Cathedral in Houston before moving to Qatar as the ambassador's wife. There she forged strong relationships with the ruling family through their mutual love of horses. This book is endorsed by many of the major institutions affiliated with Qatar.

More About the Author

Diana Untermeyer lived in Doha, Qatar, from 2004 - 2007 while her husband Chase Untermeyer served as U.S. ambassador. In Qatar she was active with women's and children's programs and in the conservation, arts and health communities. Diana participated in numerous equestrian sports and won top rider for the 2006-2007 endurance season. Her book, Qatar: Sand, Sea, and Sky was published in December 2011.

Before leaving for Qatar, Diana served as director of communications for Christ Church Cathedral in Houston, Texas. She served on the boards of the Houston Zoo, Zoo Friends of Houston, Inc., and the Hermann Park Conservancy.
Diana was graduated in 1984 with a B.A. from the University of Virginia and is a member of the Raven Society, Phi Beta Kappa, and Delta Delta Delta sorority. After graduation, she worked as a wilderness guide, a liaison between the Vice President's office and the Presidential Task Force on Regulatory Relief, an advance representative for then-Vice President and Mrs. Bush, and later as executive assistant to the counsel to President George H.W. Bush.

She and Chase have a teenage daughter, Elly, and live in Houston.

Qatar: Sand, Sea and Sky captures a vibrant desert kingdom on the cusp of change. The text and pictures show both old and new Qatar.

The images are all the more gripping because "new Qatar" dates only to 1996.

The author, Diana Untermeyer, had the unique perspectives that come from being an accomplished horsewoman who participated in Qatari endurance races, and also the wife of the US Ambassador to Qatar.

Don't miss this!

it's also an education and an art exhibit! If you want to learn about the world- learn about Qatar- a modern melting pot of technology, culture, family and government. This is a country quietly leading a way for the world to come to terms- by following its own path. The writing is pithy and to the point- never fluffed up or boring. It's like reading a modern history book. I found it to be very enjoyable and a fascinating look into a world that's hard to imagine.

Bought as a gift for my son, who had just been there. He was impressed by the wonderful pictures. It is a beautiful " cocktail table" book
